Hello All,
I figured I'd stop by for an intro.
I'm a Disabled Veteran living in Washington State. I spent 20+ years 'wrenching on Navy jets' and am now retired.
To occupy my time I'm doing a trike build that uses the rear suspension and transaxle components from a 86 Alfa GTV-6. The front end uses motorcycle components. The power is provided by a Kinner 5-cylinder radial aircraft engine from WWII running on MegaSquirt electronic ignition and fuel injection.
Have a great day!

Welcome!
Do you have a real name?
I guess the rear suspension question is for this build? My response would have been different...
Edit: Reading more carefully and looking at your site. RADIAL ENGINE??!
Are you planning a build with an Alfa gearbox? Some kind of step-up gearing before the gearbox? What kind of torque does it put out? (Yes I'm lazy)
How does an airplane engine like working at low revs like take-offs uphill?
One nice thing about the Alfa box is how it doesn't put any axial load on the crank, but then again the crank is used to pull the whole aircraft...
Cheers from Sweden!

Re: New Guy Intro
Thanks Giuliettaevo2, I just posted a current photo of the transaxle and rear frame fabrication on www.WarBirdBike.com
Mats; I'm also known as Larry.
The Kinner radial engine will be geared up 2.35:1 through a toothed drive belt turning an Alfa GTV-6 transaxle (which should put the shift points about the same as any other GTV-6). I don't know how massive the torque will be. Idle is about 350 rpm and redline is 2,000 rpm. The drive belt will be supported with high speed bearings so there will be no side load on the motor or gearbox shafts.
Regards,

Re: New Guy Intro
Hi Larry- there are a few pilots on here who will find favour in the mixing of our worlds- aviation and Alfa!
What sort of navy aircraft where you working on?
Flew my first radial a few years back- an ivchenko in a yak52...and have had the pleasure of flying a DHC Beaver on Floats-
I'm trying to line up some time in my mate's Harvard/SNJ...
Maybe one day ill get my hands on a Grumman...!
Very keen to see how your project pans out!

Re: New Guy Intro
Sydney, I worked mostly on Grumman birds including the E-2C Hawkeye, A-6E Intruder, EA-6B Prowler. Plus all the 'Navy Stuff' that goes along with it. (LOL)

Wow, that's a radical build. Thanks for sharing, and I am sure the forum members here will provide the support you need. We have a lot of hard core people here, and a lot of avaition enthusiasts, like Jules and I.
