gtv6 windscreen

Post by cato jackson »

GTV windscreens. -

Greetings , I have now ran into a bit of a problem with the suppliers of windscreens here in sunny Cape Town ,SOUTH AFRICA.It seems as if nobody supply windscreens anymore I would like to hear from the rest of South Africa what the situation is in there part of the country .When I contacted Trevor Tuck of in Pretoria he actually told me that the are no screens anywhere ,locally and internationally. Now this has me and my friend Raymond worried because he uses his car quite often and reckons if he must pay ten thousand ZAR ,then he will have to sell his car ,because then it is not a usable classic anymore.I agree with him though I am not yet ready to to sell the 2.8 ,though I drive the m3 more ,i still use my GTV on those wonderful fast trips down the Garden route.
Anybody locally or internationally shed light on the matter ,because I will only be able to drive my car and not stand and polish it if I know there are windscreens at an affordable price available.By the way my e36 M3 coupe screen only costs me 850 zar went I flying stone chipped the screen.

Over here in Holland there was an initiative to have the windscreens manufactured.

I bought one of those for something like 200-220 euro's. It's a tinted windscreen with a green blind at the top. Brand is Pilkington.

They had a group-buy for them as they needed to buy 10 windscreens at once. maybe you can do the same over there with a local company?

link to the topic on the Dutch Alfetta forum.. South Afrikans should be able to read that Dutch language.

thanks for your input ,I have tried to speak to the representatives of suppliers here with the intention of doing a group buy ,but it does not seem as if they are interested. The strange thing is I remembered PINKINGTON glass advertised in our local CAR magazine as manufacturers of windscreens many moons ago.Maybe you could send me their website so that I can also organise a group buy if the price is what you paid[220 euro is reasonable] .Iam sure ther will be enough interests and I can speak to one of my friends who are in the business of shipping to see what a final figure per screen will cost.

cheers

Had a replie to my question about the contactdetails.....

Unfortunately all communication went through a local carglass-shop. So probably your best bet is to find a shop locally that's willing to ask their supplier to make a batch.
