Greg,Patzo..yes,Ive been through the :only lasts untill next startup:saga with ss and steampipe manifolds...Im too old to hassle with having to constantly work on a turbo car because of stuff like a manifold..
Im sure its a few hp down, but then I just upp the boost.. 8) 8) 8) hehe..

Patz,I use the std gtv6 man. on the other side, not by choice mind you..its horribly small runners are not what I would want....I have tried to get US spec 30l manifolds ,but no dice..all the guys there keep them to swap out for carb an smog stuff...testing
On my own car I ran the six sedan manifold, slightly modified..will post a pic...

All piping was or is 42mm ss (id)..with a slip joint under the engine..no ss bellows, only a good old dinosaur slipjoint.

Do yourself a favour,on the 12valve turbo, fit a set of wilder cams..It livens the motor up BIG time without the associated loss downstairs..I use our old Group 1 race cam, engine comes alive at 4000rpm..with turbo even sooner..

2.8l 12 v single turbo,0.6 bar boost-240 wheel hp..not too shabby ,huh Nige?(Nigel is the guy buying tiles on tv add here... :D )

yeh same here. i use the std manifold not by choice but by financial constraints. having said that they are 75 three litre items and i have measured them and in comparison to the std gtv6 ones are 2 to 3 mm larger all the way round then taper down to the flange. so for those who didnt already know , yes the 75 headers are slightly larger. yeh good point barry on the cams but ill stick to what i got and see how she runs. this same engine with the same mods was ran n/a previously and without an airflow meter made nearly 180rwhp. i like your point of "just add more boost", i was thinking along the same lines if i came into any trouble with manifold setup but dont think it should be a problem now. so 0.6 bar 240hp that is pretty good indeed. can i assume in saying that a similar flowing 3litre engine would make that with 20 percent less boost or are my calculations incorrect. whatever it is fair effort.

Very nice! your estimations sounds ok!
Do you have room left on the turbo side for the downpipe?any pictures?
What about the clutch?

yeh am still trying to figure out how to resize photos so i can post. can anyone help? the dump passes through on the same side as the turbo sits because i have cut out a section of the passenger firewall and made an opening there. so not only was i able to pass a 3 inch dump it also allowed me to run the catalytic converter and rest of the exhaust in level with the chassis rails. this means i can make the car super low if i wanted too and the exhaust would never hit the ground. in regards to the clutch issue ,while i first run the car and get everything sorted and working how i like i will be limiting the boost to whatever the standard clutch will take. once the rest of the car is fully sorted and 100 percent i will most likely raise the boost and have a triple plate road/race clutch waiting in the garage. with this clutch i have the option of running it as a double plate or triple plate so i guees it comes down to trial and error and seeing what the thing will take, but im told it should be ok for about 400-500hp. with the use of the sm2 autronic though i will be able to limit boost in the midrange and put it in up higher in the revs where the standard clutch is less likely to slip. having said that once i put the good clutch and in partenership with the 9 inch rear slicks ,will probly blow the box. thats when the car gets chopped up and i fit the biggest and strongest box from another car i can find.

due to the crank issue I am now not sure which direction to go with my 24v project, if I have to spend 2k on a crank, I may as well use the gta pistons and put a turbo charger on it, as far as the other thread states the gta pistons are substantially lower comp than the 3L items.

what do you think guys ? buy the 3.2L crank or just get a turbo conversion done instead ?

Oooh,the making of a convert here.... :D
P,Once you taste a good turbo setup you will be smitten..Using the Gta`s as is is way to low static cr..probably as low as 6:1..not good..also if you do,pistons wont take more than 10 to 12 psi..secong ring land is rather thin due to the tight ring stack..Use your std 30l pistons and machine a 1.8mm x 80 mm dia. dish into them..
thats all you need..

I want boost.

Nice work Patzo!

Nice to see another aussie being ingenuitive.... whats the thoughts with gbox and diff?

Im toying with the idea of a skyline IRS rear end and getrag close ratio with the 1;1 5th gear.
Fixing it bit by bit....

drew: long time no see, yeh shouldnt be too much longer, hope to have it ready by november for a bit of track work then sort the car from there.

jules: yeh ingenuity at its best. have had alot of help from benincas, and have been toying with many ideas about the gearbox. i guess it comes down to when it breaks i will weigh up all my options and link that with my monetery constraints and take it from there. i do know that what ever i decide ill keep the de dion setup. i am really favoured to some sort of quality front drive dog box mounted back there with a 90 degree drive. but thats just dreaming for now.

pancho: im sure a 3.2 would be nice but i think you just have to weigh up wat sort of an engine you want to create. a hot n/a screamer is always a hoot to drive and a torquey turbo is always gona put a smile on your face. i choose the turbo because for me it was gona work out cheaper then spending similar money to get similar power with an n/a setup.

update on the build so far is exhaust is nearly finished and pretty much just have to do small jobs like radiater hoses , oil cooler lines, power steering lines, etc etc. oh and then lastly wire up the sm2, a job for benincas, then fire it up. im sure i dont have to ask any ohters here how small jobs like these always end up taking weeeks sometimes even months.

Yep , always takes more time than expected:)
Would love to see pictures of a twin or tripple plate clutch for the transaxle,I never managed to cope with my slipping clutch issue on the turbocharged engine, haven't found a clutch that survived more than 14PSI on midrange.
