Trouble with getting into first gear

Post by moz »

I am having trouble shifting into first gear. I have taken the trasmission apart and have the gears cluster in my hand. It seems to be the first gear syncro is preventing the selector ring from shifting into first. Why is this happening? Could some thing be preventing the syncro from compressing.

Moz,How much clearance do you have between the fork ends and the baulk ring??
Anything more than a mm gives sloppy changes and if its a few mm,truoble selecting gear-braze the ends up with gas and brazing rods, build a pad and then hand file for a honeymoon fit...results are the same,a real slick shifting box... 8)

Discovered it was a broken spring on the first gear detent ring. Had a shop fix the transmission.
