Lateral movement -inner halfshafts

Post by Murray »

Guys I was adjusting my rear calipers today (1986 GTV6) and noticed something that has me a little worried. If I grab the disk and shake it I get a little lateral movement.I checked the bolts fastening the disk and they are tight so the movement must be the inner halfshaft moving in and out of the differential.Anybody know what part is worn and allowing this movement ? Any chance it can be repaired without tearing apart the differential ? I really don't want to get into the differential it looks like special tools and knowledge are required neither of which are likely available locally.

i was under the impress that the half shafts had to move because the dedion tube moves and the trans does not.... when i had my tube out to press the sz bushing in and the trans was hanging on by that back bolt i noticed that i could push the ends of the half shafts in and then pull them back out. it wasnt like my car was making any sorts of abnormal noises either. it was crisp as ever
