here in SA a mechie suplied me with a giubo from a ford sierra XR 6 for my Alfetta
it worked fine

Did he replace the MIDDLE coupler..or one on the end?

The merkur xr4 coupler looks like the front or rear alfa version but does not have the center bushing guide....

No prob i will go to thier shop in the week and speak to the chap and see if i can get the part number

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but has anyone had any trouble using the BMW part?
I just thought you guys may have some feedback after a couple of years of use.

Any thoughts as i am due for a replacement and centerline don't have any and IAP are $182

If you go to link in track and race car - budget race car born ( slow delivery) pg33 you can see a BMW coupling . I use it all the time as we can't get the original but the BMW part ( genuine part) is far stronger . It's 28mm compared to 23mm so if your really want perfection then you shorten rear section of prop by 5mm . I always do but most guys here don't bother but Their motors also push out 75 kw less than mine so i like to make sure everything thing is perfect to avoid failures . ( yep and also no failures in two years on prop).

I wish I'd read this before, didn't know what a "guibo" was. Ok, I will look for a BMW one and see if it is much cheaper or maybe its just worth £89 + VAT to get an original one.

Make sure its an original BMW part as the grey market ones have no windings in them and just explode after one hard acceleration .

The one I saw is Gebi-Bilstein (made in Germany) what do you think?

Sure its fine . We just got a lot of fake ones in SA which was probably made out of Goji berries or moulded on the same paddi

As they say they the original part is always best as it its 5mm thinner but I hear there no more centre alfa guibos ( couplings , Flexi discs doughnuts ) in stock at leading Uk Specialists . A mate of mine said he just bought the last three and from now on its the thicker ones . He might be misinformed .
The specs are correct but can't vouch for quality - that's the risk you take .
If you normally struggle on that car fitting the rear of the prop onto the clutch yoke then you might have to loosen the crossmember and bring the two up together when join the rear section .
Let us know how it goes .

It worked fine! Garage said it was no problem to put on. Really pushed on the way home and all was sweetness and light. So far, so good. Thanks for the tip!
