Wise Ones,
I just replaced my '83 GTV4 transaxle with a rebuilt one, only to discover a difference in the threads in the output flanges. The initial box (may not be original) used longer driveshafts which directly clamped the discs to the output flanges (fine-pitch 8mm bolts). The replacement box requires different discs clamped on using a spacer (10mm bolts), and uses shorter driveshafts.
I've got it working using bits from one of my spare machines, but would prefer to use the newer, longer driveshafts, as the funky spacers are almost interfering with the exhaust, plus I think the longer shafts should be preferable as the CVs see a smaller angular offset; also, I've just had the longer shafts' CVs rebuilt and replaced the discs.
Is it possible, and SAFE, to fit thread inserts into the output flanges? If so, can someone suggest a supplier, or requisite thread details?
Thank'y'all,
davidh

Have you thought about changing the flanges? Probably a terrible job but it will be the best solution.
There is a reason for 12.9 fine pitch bolts in that location and it's because you need serious amounts of clamping force there for the stuff to stay put.
