That is way too much "blue" if you ask me, but I guess it worked for you. :)

Mats and Micke:

When you guys set ring/pinion intermesh depth, I understand the process but don't have measurements. Do you "gestalt" the amount of contact and contact depth from experience???

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, the contact patch moves if you change the pinion height and backlash (crown wheel height), so basically you do a shitload of aseembly/disassemblying with different shims until you get it right...

Do you think it's boring? it is... :?

"gestalt"
8) a german word I haven't heard a long time

I think x-rad asks: is the visual print in the engineers blue a experience value or specified by AR?

The AR manual doesn't mention injuneer's red. They have their measurement method instead. Which still requires a checkup with the dye AFAIK.

For the visual, it is experience (which I lack), different manuals and googling.

Yes, thats right. The AR manual specifies a certain play in the diff that you measure at a sertain radius. I thought if sounded great before I noticed there is play everywhere that will influence the measurement.
So I went totally with blue (mine is actually blue ;) )

If you keep your panties on I'll do a writeup on how to do it.

Maurizio:
That is exactly what I meant! The feeling, the experience, the problems....all of which equall Alfa!!! Or did someone actually measure the thing!?! Or, both......

Mats: Yep, how much is a "good" contact patch(I don't need an answer now but look forward to your article!) Maybe do a write-up and put it in "technical"?

Cheers

Hi, It´s been a long time for me out the forum! However, after a few years without working in my gtv6 I have finaly got motivated again. My first step will be a gearbox overhaul. I allready removed the gearbox and stript it down, however I dont have a manual and it's my frist ever gearbox rebuild and I'm a bit stuck now with the disasembly of the pinion rack, and after that, i really dont know how to determine the general state of the gearbox components. .
Anyway, I know I have a bad 3rd/4th gear syncro, and some bearing must be bad as well, as a rattling starts when the gearbox is hot and in neutral, and disapears when the cluth is pressed.......
So Mats your article would provide me lots of help!!! and if you need any help writing it let me know!
By the way, where can I find syncros, bearings, and maybe even a gear pinion......maybe IAP???? or are there any other better places to get them from?
And does a gearbox manual appear in the car disc cd????
Ill post some pictures of the rebuild soon.
Thanks for your help,
Cheers
Andres.

Andres,

The following site has transaxle overhaul info for the 75/Milano. Basically the same procedure. A lot of other useful stuff for engine overhaul, etc.

It's not the writing that's the problem, I need to snap some additional pics and actually get around to do the work... ;)

I've had tons of other stuff to do lately but hang on, there will be updates.

Hi, is it worth paying extra for the OEM syncro rings? I want a "like new" gearbox
Are these the same for the 75 TS gearbox?
Thanks for your help

Are there non-OEM rings available?

They are the same in all transaxle boxes as far as I know.

Mats,
The pics in the first page are red "X" to me. Anyone else with that problem?
BTW, as far as I know, yes, non-OEM syncro rings are available.
