English spoken in Australia

Post by hutchensgd »

I work with people for Austrailia, and in fact products which we make here in Thibodaux get shipped there for sugar cane harvesting. Even though I have not been there, I know that you speak proper Queen's English.

well, that would still make it english, since english ostensibly came from england...

damn yanks.

"American" differs only in that all words over three syllables have been banned as have any other word unpronounceable by the current head of state. Currently, needless to say, most of the english language is off-limits.

Is there a small chanse we could return to my topic of this tread?

So far it seems like it´s the shim of the pinion. Other suggerstions?

I just don't understand. You will naturally try the shim replacement first since that is probably the problem and to see if it worked you will have to put everything back together and test drive it.
You will not be able to "feel" if the bearings are bad with the box apart unless they are really bad (but if they were really bad you would probably not drive the car because of the noise/vibration) and changing the bearings come after the shim anyway.
When you have the box down for the shim change you could always look at the bearings and make a mental note of how they look, also try to feel how the bearings on the output shafts are doing.

OK thanks, thats what I´ll do.
Just that I´ve never opened a gear box before and want to gather as much info as possible before I do.

Hi guys!

Now we´ve taken the gear box appart (TS-box) and discovered what the problem is. The pinion and the crown wheel hasn´t been friends for a while. (see pics below)

What we´re thinking about now is this: We have an extra gear box from a 2.5 i good shape. Can we combine these two and build one healthy one? We would like to take the pinion and the whole package in the middle pic. below, and the crown wheel from the 2.5 box and put it in the TS. Will this work?

Another idea is to take the diff from the TS, change the crown wheel and put it in the healthy 2.5. Any thoughts?

The pictures shows the damage om both crown wheel and pinion.

Tectoteam!

This is strictly a track car, so "time is miles" doesn´t really apply here.

The whining started in july sometime. After thet whe drove it maybe 5-6 occations on the track. Note that it didn´t break! It was driveable all the time, only the noise got worse.

Some feedback for you. After taking the old gear box appart and noticing it was a gonner, we did as follows:

We took the diff from the box we had, a TS. It was still ok, but the pinion and crown wheel was wrecked. Then we took the gears and crown wheel from a 2.5 and the cluch we kept (from a 3.0 originally).

Now it has been but back in the car and it works well after all we can tell after a few test drives.

So, it works combining different trans axle gear boxes! :P

...;say me something.

about the old box..the one on the pics that have pinion and crownwheel damaged....
when you fit this ?, or how time(or track days) before noise begins to appear ?

were i want to go with theses questions.
i want to know if vital clearances are checked and eventually adjusted.
its important to set the pinion to crownwheel play with the shims beetwen differential bearing race in cover and case.
and one other clearance:
the pinion heigth., translate to the contact 'aera' beetwen crownwheel and pinion theets...
