Under heating

84 GTV6 - I live in San Jose CA. So cold is 30F. (I'm from E Mont. no simpathy from family there)
I have trouble getting the temperature up normal on cold morings. When I do, if I trun on the heater the temperature goes back down to the half way mark. I put in a new thermostat from Vicks. It works maybe it bit better, but on warm days it goes up to the next higher mark at stop lights.
Thanks and a tip of the hat from ole Charlie

Are you using a coolant or just water?

I'm using the proper water/anitfreeze ratio, per spec. I don't know what it is, off the top of my head. However I would have followed the guideline.

Are your cooling fans running like they are supposed to? As in are they running all the time?

Middle of the needle sweep is about normal.... Mine reads about 175 normally.

My window seals aren't real good so I get a fair bit of fresh air that i don't want and the heater isn't one to roast you out either.

Do check your air ducts behind the dash and the vent controls to make sure the air is going where you want.

It is definately a cooling problem, or should I say heating problem, with the motor temperature.

Do what they did at the turn of the century. Install a roller blind over the radiator and cover as much or as little based on the seasons as will produce an operating temp.

(just kidding really )

The car should not need any radiator blind, temperture should be stable anyway.
There is something wrong with the cooling system!
