Could this be caused by the throttle switch?

Have you tried a std paper filter just to eliminate that possibility?

i have the old one i can try. What is the reason for the performance filter causing this problem? is it a common prob? I also should mention that the car doesn't always do this. And it seems to be worse when the car is cold

thanks

the car only does this when it's driving, so how would i check for a weak spark or the distributor?

Sounds like it's running really lean. Look for air leaks.
