Engine Cutting Out

Post by Terry Johnston »

I have a problem with my 83 CA GTV6 (California 83 GTV6 is essentially an 84 including recaro style seats except it has the the 81-83 gear ratio) that I have owned since new. The engine intermently cuts out. The engine is a standard 2.5 with a Pandoras box (been in since 1987 or so) and Greg Gordons air intake. I have recently replaced fuel filter and fuel pump (problem predates this). Whe this happens if I take out the no 5 fuse the engine will start briefly and dies. I then check vacume and AFM and make sure the wires and fuses are in properly. It eventually restarts and works fine. The engine cutoff switch was removed 15-20 years ago and the wires direct wired. Something that maybe related is that the car does not start or starts but runs very roughly and smokes (maybe running rich)when it is cold in the morning. Come back in the afternoon and it starts with no smoking. I don't think the engine cutting out is grounds. Terry
