75 roll cage

Post by zambon »

I found a person to help me make a roll cage for my car. I am wondering if anybody has links to photos of existing cages already installed in cars?

*This does not mean that I will be taking my questionable lightened gearbox to track events* 8)

Whatever you do, look at the FIA rules for cages, DO NOT make a cage that can't be classified or you might regret it later.

Zambon,

If you are racing in the US, then get the SCCA rule book. The rules should be applicable to all Alfa club racing events too.

I actually have a 3D CAD model of a 75 roll cage...
If you want, I can do some renderings for you, it's easy enough to add/remove tubes in the virtual world too. ;)
I can even estimate weight.

Yes, UG.

.dwg is only 2D as far as I know, I could do a drawing but the cage is really only a "sketch NUFO" so it can't really be used for manufacturing. But if you want a sketch with approximate lengths that could be arranged. :)

I'll have a look and see how presentable it is before I post it. ;)
Might snap some pics of the actual cage I tried to copy, that might be useful to explain it better.

Oh, I found some pics...

I'll complete the cage and then make some prt/igs/step files for you, ok? :)

Just don't expect me to have it done by tomorrow...

Maurizio: This is from when I was still building on the 75 body (that is now just standing around) It's really only a min-spec cage (not even that since the back half is still not done) that I threw together from measurements from a friends 75 cage.
I did it for a stiffness study; "What happens if I add a tube here" type of thing so the measurements aren't really spot on but rather coarse since I really only want to see better/worse kinda results and weight approximation.

@mats, the parts wich are not designed yet, are the parts I want to really play around with.
For the back and the front (from the bulkhead) I have some ideas going through my head.

And since your start is parametric I can alter to verified dimensions.
So I'm not blaming you when the pipes don't fit :D
I have a tube bender laying around. If I get the time....
