Build pics of my alfa gtv6-Thread officially closed! All done

Post by GarthW »

Hi all. long time since i've been on. Well as some of you may know
i've been rebuilding my gtv6 for afew months now. My engine is recieving new internals and is only a week away from me getting it back. I had some delays, i lost around 6-7 weeks in all, but its all finally coming together. I will have some build pics soonish, car is around 3 weeks away from being ready.

Just a quick question, i showed the guy i got my turbo off a photo of my intercooler fitted in the car. He believes it is too big, its core size is 600x300,
i thought this size would be fine? The turbo is made to run 20psi and i thought bigger the cooler the better if i chose to run close to this figure from time to time...? Anyway will be back soon with some pics.

You going to be running 20 psi ?? Go BIGGER with that intercooler there Garth !!
The largest Ive used in 17 odd turbo builds has been Spearco cores of 800x 550 mm. Smallest is the one on the green car,650 x 500 mm
An intercooler is like a dick, you can never have it too small..!!
French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.

Haha, cheers Barry, thats what i thought. He said turbo would trouble filling the cooler up..? I wouldnt be running 20psi until driveline is completley sorted, which with what i've spent on the car already will be awhile away.

Damn Baz how you fit in a 800x550..? Thats big for the front of a gtv6. Mine fitted very well, but damn i'd hate to wanna go bigger!

Sending you pics to email Baz, i cant resize as yet, so cant post any here.

Damn Evo that a glitch or what..? Haha, oh and again thanks for the link!

Here is some build pics...This one is of new silver sound matting which has replaced the old,bad ugly, and very heavy original shag pile.
Interior was gutted, brushed back everything to the metal, there was no rust,
smeared a very thin layer of sound deadening tar, then the silver matting on top. Was going to buy new carpet, but i steam cleaned original carpet instead, and it came up very nice, good quality still after 22yrs.

Stinger road kill sound matting, expensive but its very good.

Here is a closer pic of Greddy gauge and Bov.

This is a bmc turbo filter with a sealed front end, the way it should be!
Will have some better pics soonish, i've just showed bits and pieces, but will have some fabrication stuff soon, all fab work is being done myself, everything is being tig welded, manifolds are getting ceramic coated, high temp paints for engine bay, block, rocker covers and plenum. All intercooler piping will be alloy, but then i heard stainless is the best heat conductor..?. I have mandrel bends for manifold and piping.
Hope you all enjoy the pics, will be back soon. :D

Here are some pics of polished and painted rocker boxes, cam covers, whatever you call them, not quite finished but many hours of filing and sanding went into these. Plenum will be exactly the same.
