Re: Build pics of my alfa gtv6, its finished! Updated pics-28-07
Just a quick update, have had afew hurdles, but have prevailed trough them
all and will be ready any day now... All the sensors are on and wired in,
injectors are in, ecu is in, crank angle sensor is running off a 164 pulley
wheel, couldnt use an adaptor plate for manifold comes very close already to existing wheel, so of course once the 164 crank wheel was on, the 164 water pulley wheel wasnt going to fit, so a custom one was made from some aluminum, and of course a new 164 water pump, so basically i'm running a 164 front end! At least in the end its all secure, bolted on right and will be reliable. Also i have a knock sensor installed, as well as a bleed off valve for adjusting boost. Tomorrow is putting all the heat shields in place, and bolting everything back on.
Then next week sometime its off for some tuning on the dyno, should be seeing over
500nm, with the car weighing not much over 1100 now, it should feel good.
Running a high performance coil for the ignition. I'm thinking one day when i have time i'm going to build another manifold but with 32mm runners from the block, then 50mm pipe hitting the turbo, spool up would be crazy i reckon...?
Again i'll say this has been a great learning experience, my car now will be very different to drive, i'm running a different ecu again, Wolf didnt come up with the ecu i wanted in time, but what i have now is leaps and bounds above that old WolfV4, even the new one out!
All new high flow injectors, old ones took half a day, 4hours to remove.
Will send more pics as soon as i can, hope your all well.

Congrats! Where did you mount the knock sensor and how do you plan to develop/tune the knock detection algorithm?GarthW wrote:Also i have a knock sensor installed...

Thanks for the kind words guys, its getting exciting now, dying to see how it drives with all new injection, but next down the track is bigger brakes! Then a 2 way lsd, arrrgh when and where does it end..? Here's some more pics...
Pic of knock sensor from a porsche. Not sure about the knock sensor and how it works, this is one part of the build i cant do much on..
Hey Jules, i'm running a new Adaptronic ecu which is an amazing little unit,
loads of features, its up there with some top names, but their not that well known,
there based in Sydney and did me a great deal. They dont even advertise all the feature's they have, very happy with this ecu.
Pics of tps switch, air inlet sensor,Suby sti bleed off valve. Running an oxy sensor from exhaust for later dyno tuning, also splitting rear exhaust from turbo to separate rear turbine and wastegate for better flow out.
Car will and should be started Monday, then later in wekk off to the dyno, will hopefully be there when its on the rollers so i can film it.
Will try to post the vid from when engine was first started...Idling fast, started easily, and of course loud for running no exhaust, except off the turbo to just past firewall, please upload..been 5mins now...and this pc is quick.
Ok, video didnt work, but i've just finished uploading vid to youtube, so hope this link works...<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qCz0uc7gm-w&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qCz0uc7gm-w&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Hope that worked...dammit, just look under alfa gtv6 turbo, Garths6 on youtube.
Remember vid was from first start after rebuild, so without the ecu, high flow injectors, pump, etc..
Anyway next time you see pics of engine bay it will look abit different, all wiring has been moved to the drivers side, so no wiring near turbo anymore, also have been using thin aluminum sheeting which is for heat prevention to protect starter motor and alternator, and brake lines and stuff, so once finished will be mainting alot of the heat.
Next time i'm on will have pics of everything finished and hopefully on the dyno.
Sorry for the dodgy vid footage, was looking for any signs of trouble whilst trying to film. At least next time it may sound a little different.

Video works - just copied and pasted the URL. Can't wait to see it on the dyno! I'm curious to learn if the knock sensor will work well for you. I assume you are going to use it to retard timing in case of pinging. I once had a Saab aero - the 2.3 I4 turbo with about 250 HP. In some cases you could hear the engine starting to ping but immediately go away as it retarded timing.

Hey AR4Me, trust me, the guy who is tuning this knows a thing or two, knock sensor there to insure reliability, not sure about the retard timing bit though...

he garth, your steering wheel is on the wrong side
nice project you have there!
beware that your fuel/air mixture is totally right otherwise your engine will die fast.

Hey Marc..
Hey Marc..
French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.
Re: Build pics of my alfa gtv6, its finished! Updated pics-28-07
Way to go using the Adaptronic, way better computer (from what I read) than others in a similar and higher price range. I like the fact that it will work with the Motronic 60-2 crank trigger without any fuss. Also, have read that their auto-tune system is 1 of the better 1s on the market. And a decent electronic boost control, all for about the same price of a Microguess LT10(that does way, way less).
