Nice work Baz.

But it is strange to read an engine builder who endorces running an engine extra rich for extended lengths of time. Aren't you concerned with washing the oil off the bores causing increased wear? Also, the extra carbon deposits in the combustion chamber causing hot spots and pre-ignition problems sping to mind.

But aside from that, it looks fantastic. Are you hoping to see any particular rear wheel power figures? Care to share what sort of injectors you used?

Ah,ok..The rich mixtures are only under boost..Cruising is around 13-14:1afr.
N/a running around 12.8 and under boost I will see 11`s and even 10`s.
The carbon build up here is due to oil I squirted down the bores a while back while the engine stood..Still not fully burnt off.Now that she is open Ill clean all that off..

I started my 2.7V6 on the Megasquirt ems this weekend. The base tune is surprisingly good, so no problem driving the car.

But, do any of you have an ignition map for an V6? I really have no clue how to put this on an turbocharged V6. A 2.8V6 ignition map would be pretty close I suppose. Would be nice to try an another ignition map/setting.

To get you started, roughly follow your r.p.m.

10 deg at 1000
15 at 1500
20 at 2000
25 at 2500 30 at 3000
as the engine takes boost pull back the timing about 1 deg for every 0.1 bar boost untill you hit 27 deg...this is pretty conservative up to 0.8 bar boost..

Fine tune from there.these figures will get you spinning wheels...

I suppose that this is an starting point from 100kpa and up to 180kpa that would be around 27 deg?
Then I need to add 1 deg per 10 kpa below 100kpa?

Today the car is boosting 1.2 in mid and down to 0.9 in top revs.
But since the engine is an low cr, 2l crank and 3l pistons, 93x66,2 - it needs more advance than an high cr engine - but I do get high cr at high boost - so I need an little indication where to go.

I will follow your example and fill out an table and see how much mine now differs.

At 4300 I get 43 deg, at 5000 I then get 50 deg - this isnt right is it?

Thanks.

Below is my imaginary spark table - and the current table..
Comments on this?
-Sorry, but my current table is "upside-down"
-The current table is mainly done by an generator where you put in air inlet temp, bore, cr, fuel quality and number of valves.

the problem with alfa drivers is that the sleeper effect does not last very long when the car is on the street

Yea Ozz,I hear ya !!

I'm running the turbo on the freeway here today..Checking final afr`s before handing the car to Dwayne tomorrow..
Next moment the ass end goes airborne while I'm doing 160 odd km/h ! One almighty bang and crunchies like Ive not heard for a while...no warning either..
The gearbox lunched itself ! Oil everywhere !
Damn, what an experience ! Was cruising as well,no power there....
Well, she arrived back on a low bed and Ill get her up and checked soon...
Bit concerned as things stopped rather abruptly when this all happened..
Will inspect the motor as well, just to make sure..
