Hey Chen,Sorry, missed this post..No the grey coating is simply a 600 deg. C paint coating...It actually lasts very long considering the temps involved..
It just looks so much better than a rusted up piece of pipe...
Once its baked on,it becomes a powdery coating that will come off untill, well, untill it doesnt anymore!
Does not mean its all gone,it just burns the excess off.

Mats,Your correct there. It does get rather warm around the rack..
The pipe gets wrapped with a heat blanket. The stuff i use is discarded JT9d jet engine kevlar insulation..
believe it or not, there is still at least 50mm air gap between the rack and the pipe!!

Hahaha.Greg Gordon wrote:I think the rack will be fine. Mats is the most critical person on this forum and it's one of the reasons I love reading his posts. If all he found wrong is a heated steering rack you know it's a good setup!
Greg
I'm hard but unfair.
Still can't exactly figure out where the rack is though, I thought it would be in between the cross-under (? ) pipe and the downpipe but then I can't se how the 3" pipe fits between the body and rack.
I know my 3" downpipe is pretty close to the rack and engine mount but the cross member the rack is mounted to is pretty tight up against the kink in the sump.
