Apart from the great sound, the most amazing thing is that the engine isn't rocking at all.... Almost no movement. Beautiful beast you've got there, Jes.

Oh, and those throttle bodies: PURE PORN!

My pleasure JJ.
Are those the std motor mounts with no reaction bar or similar? My engine rocks MUCH more when I just free-rev it... Strange.

Standard, but brand new engine mounts - left, right, rear.

Perhaps the lighter flywheel could make a difference - less mass (= "less resistance") to spin.

Or, perhaps folks are used to old mounts...

balance man.. balance, and perfect firing in the cylinders, really special stuff guys...
Dumb question, but, How did you guys compensate for the lighter flywheel on the rear? you guys got that after Dawie sent you the motor? So did you just get lucky being that its less mass..?

A couple of observations/questions made, ive never owned a milano, but it looks like the 156 engine is much further back than stock, or maybe its just all the bits being in the rear now giving that illusion, but either way is REALLY awsome, the weight being closer to center, and theres literally like a foot now between the radiator and fan and the front of the engine block, lot more cooler air space whirling around in there cant hurt.

Did you guys just use your stock fuel system? Fuel pump, fuel lines, etc? I see a fuel pressure regulator there looks like..?

What happened to the Praggia brakes, read somewhere about special fittings needed to be made? eek, im seriously thinking about one of these kits....

Whats your completion date looking to be now? I think I remember hearing December? but after youve heard it maybe thats sped up? heheheee

Accent Check - JJ? I think SA.. Jes? Dutch or Swede? haaaa

PS. Jes, didnt know you were in SOCAL... If you ever bring one of these bad boys around the valley let us know...

Mats, no reaction bar.

It is all in the reduced internal mass (aluminium pistons), lighter flywheel (by 40% ) and in the final balancing...

The internal moving parts were balanced together with the lightened flywheel and the crank pulley! The rear flywheel was also lightened by 17% and it is also spinning creating torque twist at full weight!

The mounts are all new - we started to install a 3mm thick plate on the right-side mount to "lift" the motor a tad, but it is not needed. The alternator to the body) but even with heavy torque blipping the throttle it does not even come close to touching!

Yeah, the space up front is mostly a function of the thermostat housing and all now moved to the rear and you have the flat face belt covers now... Still, it seems moved back, but I don't think so as we used all stock mounting points and stock shaft lengths....

AR4me – DK – That Dane likes Heineken and he just bought a Japanese car! Ha-ha…

Stock but new fuel pump and filter. Larger new fuel lines. Aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and gauge.

Brakes; Praggia, yes - close now - lots of custom work to make 8 pot fronts and 4 pot rears (outboard) fit...

This thing will be driven in about a week and a half or so.
Body work - thinking about flying to England next month to buy kits.
Final paint - up to Jes... Maybe 60 days?

I want mine done in 60 days. Trying to help get Jes' out the door and rolling first. COULD NOT wait to December personally!

Jes will have the car down in SoCal within 90 days at the most I think. Huh Jes?

PaulCC: yeah, balance would make it idle smooth but it would still twist like a mother beacause ot the weight in the rotating assembly.
BTW Jes, is the propshaft and clutch on there? If not that would explain quite a bit. :)

JJ: Alu pistons? I should hope so, anything else would be very special. :D

Anyhoo, looks very promising!

Mats,

Yes, entire driveline is in place - everything. Not a stock clutch, but a "race" clutch from Andrew Garcia of Houston (also slightly lighter clutch assembly back there).

So, if it is all due to reduced rotating mass, the engine twist should still appear under load (i.e. driving).

Huh? I dont know if youve seen the video but theyre opening her up (not just at idle) and the engine is smooth as a kitten, yes under load will be the true test, but seeing an engine run absolutely no vibration at almost full throttle isnt just going to start wobbling all over the place while driving? I mean even Drag Cars whose engines dramatically shift from one side to the other under full throttle due to the huge amount torque, dont Wobble... they just shift and then are basically locked in.. And really no offense.. but wouldnt it be kinda hard to spin the rear wheels like in the video without the driveshaft in place haha.. :P

Hey JJ, I forgot to ask, I don't know why but I guess I was pairing up you being the US connection to Dawie with the Praggia's too, but you clearly stated somewhere you were just showing us Alfa freaks options, anyways, will you be selling these kits? these mods you had to mak would have to be made to all? Im looking for the six pot fronts, 4 pots inboard vented rears. Ill email you as well. thanks

Hey PaulyCC,

Yeah, let's talk off-line... What started as a hobby for me is now getting legs and taking up more of my time away from my day-job. In the past I have been lamented here on the gtv6.com (and short of burned at the stake) for wha was labeled as a "commercial interest" when I mentioned prices (even when at a member's request!!!) Even mentioning that I “represent” some of the South African products here on the boards, in the US and Australia etc causes some discomfort...

I am just helping out a few of the guys in SA to introduce their products and services here – mainly Dawie at Glenwood… It was gingerly suggested to me though to get a website in order to eliminate the entire "commercial interest" issue. (I don't understand it, but whatever) - does having a website that sells this stuff not MAKE you a commercial interest by extension...?

Any way, things have been very cool here lately, so I do not want to have the boat rocked... I can help with the brakes and I actually have an extra 6-pot and an 8-pot set here State-side for you, but please, contact me of-line or call me...

I have launched www.glenwoodalfa.com so please contact me there for further pricing and other questions. My cell is 425.941.4747 - I only sleep between about 1 or 2AM and about 6 or 7AM Pacific Standard Time...

Also, since you want to keep the rears inboard, you may want to also call Joe at Group 2 Inc. (206.378.0900 - Tell him that "Alfa-John" sent ya...) They just came up with a combination larger front disc running Wilwood 4 pots that Jes got for his street Verde matched up to a vented rear (SZ-type) with reconditioned 2 pots and a great deal more bite back there as well!

Like I said; Jes has the entire setup and he seems to like it. What is nice is that it is all bolt-on, priced well and fits the stock mounts. Also looks really good!

You misunderstood me, I was referring to the engine moving, not "wobbling about", and of course you can keep an engine at 8000 perfectly still and in the same position as it normally rests in if it's balanced correctly but it will move if you accelerate or decelerate it.
True about the wheels though, brain fade or something, hah! :D
