Bigger calipers and their suitable discs

Post by Jose_76 »

Hi everybody,

After years reading this forum we all know we have a lot of calipers/discs choices to build our own BBK, but, I've never seen a list or a document where you can look for what you need at a glance, for example, de disc diameter and width recommended for a determined caliper.

So, with the help of this community, I'd like to do so and help all of us with that info. That could be something like this (all ideas welcome!):

Stock GTV6/75 3.0 Brembo 2 piston calipers
Pistons diameter: 48mm
Recommended disc: 269x22mm
Min. disc: 250 x 20mm (?)
Max. disc: 284 x 24mm (maybe bigger?)
Distance between mounting points (center-to-center): 76,5mm
Caliper ref. nos.: ???
Standard pads ref.: ???
Ferodo DS2500 pads ref. : ???

Alfa 147/156 GTA Phase 1 (non-radials) Brembo 4 piston calipers
Pistons diameter: 38/42mm
Recommended disc: 305x28mm
Min. disc: 281 x 26mm (?)
Max. disc: 310 x 30 mm (?)
Distance between mounting points (center-to-center): 130,6mm
Caliper ref. nos.: ???
Standard pads ref.: ???
Ferodo DS2500 pads ref. : ???

Alfa 159/Brera/Spider and 147/156 GTA Phase 2 (radials) Brembo 4 piston calipers
Pistons diameter: 42mm
Recommended disc: 330x32mm
Min. disc: 300 x 30 mm (?)
Max. disc: 340 x 34 mm (?)
Distance between mounting points (center-to-center): ???mm
Caliper ref. nos.: ???
Standard pads ref.: ???
Ferodo DS2500 pads ref. : ???

Alfa 166 (non-radials) Brembo 4 piston calipers
Pistons diameter: 38/42mm
Recommended disc: 310x28mm
Min. disc: 290 x 26 mm (?)
Max. disc: 330 x 30 mm (?)
Distance between mounting points (center-to-center): ???mm
Caliper ref. nos.: ???
Standard pads ref.: ???
Ferodo DS2500 pads ref. : ???

NOTE: All the ??? are either unknown or in need of your knowledge to be fulfilled

Thank you all guys in advance! All comments are welcome!

I'm looking at the option to fit 166 brembo calipers I already have, but trying to retain the possibility to fit r15 wheels.
I don't want to modify the spindles, so I guess my only option is to machine the calipers a bit, so that the "ears" of the spindle, can be between the bolt holes of the 166 caliper. Anyways here is a list of brake discs that I found to be candidates for the swap:

website with the search by size is http://www.apecbraking.co.uk/catalogue/searchbysize
