Ventilated discs to replace solid ones

Post by ian 159 »

Hi,

I have an Alfetta Sedan with 5 stud hubs and solid front discs. I would like to fit the 2.5 GTV's ventilated front discs and four pot calipers. What would I need to replace? :?

I'm mainly concearned with replacing the stub axles in front, as I've just spent lots of money having mine remachined and refurbished and would hate to lose them now! :(

But I really need some better brakes!

Solid disks and five studs? Are you sure? Never heard about that before, all other Alfetta based cars I have seen have had solids with four studs and ventilated with five studs.

If you have solids with four studs you can do this: remove the solid disc from the hub, mount the ventilated to the hub and use one (1) stud to locate it rotation-wise. Drill through the stud holes in the hub to get the remaining four holes and fit the studs.
Mount the GTV6 two pot alu caliper to the hub and make sure you use the little pipe part that came with the caliper.

If you mean the four pot calipers from the 916 GTV 24v I have no idea. :)

Thanks Matts.

Yes, the hub does have five studs and solid discs.

I meant twin pot calipers, sorry. The aluminium ones. So, I will not have to change hubs then? Or modify any other part of my car? :?:

Well, as I said, I've never, ever heard about five lugs and solid disk before so there might be a diffference in your huds vs. the "normal ones.

Just try it, probably works well. :)

We got solid 5 stud discs on the late model Giulietta`s here..

Discs and calipers will bolt up to your car as is..
French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.

off topic : I think I've seen solid 5 stud discs on a 75 turbo diesel and on a 90 2.0 v6 + 2.4 td

Ps the 90 was while working (part time, student, ... long ago) at a gas station and warned the man he was at the wrong pump.
He looked surprised that someone even knew it was an alfa and I learned that there are diesel transaxles
