75 TS or 155 TS 16V Widetrack for track car?

Post by Zamani »

Which one has more potential. Only thing I see going for the 75 is the RWD. Otherwise, a stock 155 TS 16V widetrack has the 75 by the b@ll5. Not to mention the 75s are more expensive to buy and the servicing cost is higher too.

I'm leaning towards the 155 TS 16V, quicker rack, 16V power, no donuts to blowup, wider track, dime a dozen.

I'm not taking the 155 V6 to the track, hence why I'm looking for a cheaper car to thrash around the track.

Any other thoughts?

Some nice inboard footage of a Squadra Italia race with a faily standard 2.0 16V 155.
The 75's are also fairly standard and have the original 148bhp TS engine.
The specs are comparable to that of the 155 shown.
The two red 155's are 3.0 24V cars,
I won the first race and became second in the last race, but i managed to get the fastest lap in both races in my 155 24V
The 155's have allready shown that they have quit a lot of potential.

What about the weght of the 155 TS compared to 75 TS? If removing unneeded parts and installing the rollgage and only drivers seat, 75 will easily go to around 1000kg. How about 155?

2.0 16v TS is crappy designed engine. Crankshaft doesn't like revs at all, while on low revs it doesn't perform like long stroke engines! I know at least 15 Alfas in Serbia that had crankshaft failure - and those were regular street cars.

If I would go for 155, I would choose 8v because it is way more reliable, lighter and similar with power output.

I think it was bad QC. There were some in Malaysia too, destroyed main bearings. Variator issues as well. But I was told by someone that you need the "proper" main bearings for it to take the revs and not self-destruct.

Actually I wonder if the last of the 1.8 8V TS would be a good candidate. It has the wide track and stronger liners, so boosting should be easy even with high compression pistons (low boost).

16v engines are not very good quality... :(

the 155 16v and 156/147 16v are offered here in Holland very often with a damaged engine.

lifespan of the belt is 60.000km or 3 years and don't go over it! There also is a lubrication thing to look out for, if you get below min on the dipstick you are getting very close to crankdamage.... never let the oillevel get to low, it will loose a conrodbearing and the crank will be damaged. :(
Drive it like you stole it...

Those are the most common problems on these 16V engines. They tend to consume some oil, and the drivers doesn't check the oil level. The combination leads to bearing failures sooner or after. The cam belt won't last long and may fail even way before the 60 000km. I personally use to open the cam belt cover and check that the belt is tight and looks good.

But for racing, these aren't a big deals. The oil level and belts can be inspected more often than on road cars.
