MFI TPS install questions?

I bought a Porsche 944 TPS ( Bosch part number 0 280 120 308 )because that was the part recommended. It is also a three wire TPS.

On the MFI there are three wires for the TPS - orange +5v, a brown stripped ground, and blue stripped signal. This TPS has the same markings as the old on 2, 18, 3. We connected the TPS with orange on 18, brown on 3, and blue on 2.

We also switched the settings as follows, Elevation from 12 to 10, TPS/Map mix from 0 to 2. Do these setting make sense? Also the throttle reading on the GoTech screen was always 100%.

Any suggestions? Still trying to learn the GoTech MFI, before I get a Pro running shortly.

Intuitively, a throttle reading of 100% does not sound right. I would check the manual to verify wiring and perhaps the GoTech web-site for useful information. You could also simply call them. I'm sure they will be helpful.

You got to select the mix of TPS and MAP that you want (on the setup screen) - sounds like you did that. Suppose the options are; MAP only, TPS only, MAP+TPS, not sure which value in the setting represents which, but it will say.

I'm planning to add a TPS within the next 2-3 weeks, time permitting.

Out of curiosity: Does it run?

The TPS/MAP was set to use a 50/50 mix of both sensors. With the changes we made the car is indeed run and had much better throttle response than MAP only. I did not like the 100 reading on the display.

You may have the tps wired upside down.

This will give 100% reading at idle

Have a check that when you sweep the throttle open the %'s go the wright way.

On the V6 alfa, you do not need need a tps! unless you are running individual throttle bodies, or full race cams with a plenum.

Currently, you can only run the accelerator pump with TPS - apparently a new chip will allow you to also run accelerator pump with MAP.

Ah, okay.....

you guys on version 3 right??? 4 and now 5 allow acc pump as Jes correctly states.

I guess you have much older models.

Just order the new v5 chip ( very cheap) open the box and pop it in.

No... All of us here (at least the ones that I brought over) are Chipset 4... Everybody should also make sure to download the new version software...

Unless we are misunderstanding each other here. From talking to Domingo, it is my understansing that the accelerator pump only works with TPS, but new chips will allow accelerator pump with MAP. Now, from which chip version that is, I'm not sure. However, I'm pretty sure that my ECU can only run accelerator pump with TPS as accelerator pump with MAP is new.

However, as Andrew said, plug in the new chip and it is there.

Have a look at these links. Acc pump on v4, with map sensor, and advanced acc pump with v5.

You must update the software as JJ has said, to take advantages of the improvements.

I use V4 and V5 on my v6's and they both work well. V5 just has more acc pump microsecond available, and more cold start cranking enrichment.

an easy way to check the tps connections:
take a multimeter and switch it to measure ohmage. Between + and - on the tps the ohmage will stay the same when you open the throttle. between + and signal the ohmage will drop when you open the throttle. So then you know which pins are +, - and signal.

On the gotech wiring harness:
+ = orange
- = brown/white
signal = blue/yellow

on the v5 ecu's the acc pumps work on both map and tps. I would go tps only on a normally aspirated vehicle and map only on a charged vehicle. Don't go for tps map mix.

I bought the Bosch (Porsche) TPS (0 280 120 308) that Andrew on the GTV6 board said was recommended. My multimeter seems to indicate its of the off/on variety, a switch not a sensor. Is it useless with GoTech, then?

Did Andrew get his working?

Is there another type that works as a sender without going to the trouble of fabricating a bracket?

Car is an Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 V6

It is off the 944 Turbo, nut "regular" 944, if I recall correctly. I have that Bosch TPS in my drawer, never got around to use it, and car long gone. I can read Bosch number off it if you are interested in cross-checking. Mine is surely a potentiometer and not the on/off type.

A pic attached. In case you can't read the number: Bosch 0 280 120 400

It has 6 pins. I could not find my notes from measuring it and identifying the pins to use - you would have to do that.

Thanks, Jes. Looking at some other posts, I decided to source a 164 throttle body for which a common 3 pin sensor used on Volvo's and Saabs connects to. I found that on the megasquirt area of this site! I'll let everybody know how it goes. Right now on running on MAP but I want to explore!

Thanks!!!!!!
