Hey guys
So im curious here.
my v6 isnt running right and im prepping to do a an engine removel and tear down to put new rings/gaskets in.
The engine runs great but it has a few leaks and is down on power (75 kw )
Im curious what i should all get as this is my first rebuild!

Im planning to just do new rings/hone the barrels.
and all new gaskets everywhere i go.

I really need to get this order right because ill be in Botswana, which is the ass end of nowehere so extra parts will be a nightmare!

Hi , been an ex Vaalie and now living in UK I would recommend EB Spares or Highwood Alfa .
In the last five years I have seen numerous smoking v6s with new gaskets kits in and we have found the black valve guide seals to be faulty . What we do at the workshop I'm with we order the green valve guide seals from Classic Alfa UK as the 105 series use the same diameter valve stem as the v6 .
I see you want a new oil pump as well . If you read Jks book you can check yours out . What's your oil pressure at moment . Have you got a mechanical guage to check it ?
When your engine is apart you should measure up every part as per alfa manual . Get a good bore guage etc . Mark every valve and follower so not to mix , mark every piston , rod etc and directions . If your heads have not been skimmed to much the new style tensioner is worth it . Have not seen any failures on these in last five years . I just think that issue was an early batch of faulty tensioner springs .
The Spesso cam cover gaskets are really good as they have the silicone bead both sides .

I was planning to order the stuff from centerline.
Are you saying id be better off getting the kits from EB or highwood when im in s.a?
I need to do the gaskets of the engine from top to bottom as it has leaks all along the block.
I believe some of the smoking is from worn valve seals but im also substantially down on power, yet the engine is running very well. So my best guess is rings (compression of about 150 psi)

I wasnt planning on getting an oil pump though, pressure is pretty good.
Or at least i think so. It holds at middle level from idle to 3000 and climbs up a bit when i push it to 6000 rpm.

I already have a new tensioner mounted, and im pretty pleased with it

BotswanaAlfa when it comes to gaskets my line in the sand is drawn around head gaskets and valve seals.I don't see any details in the Centerline offering visa vi the individual sources of the gaskets and I'd absolutely insist on those details.I've had good experience with Reinz head gaskets,done a bunch, former garage owner.I'm sure the Euro and Brit participants (I know it's not official) have many more recommendations cause you guys have a lot more choices than we poor North Americans.For the valve seals the general consensus appears to be that they must be green , highly technical I know,but in all seriousness too much labour involved to not be confident of your choices.
