:D

I like the idea of not having to worry about a gearbox made from glass...
Some parts of that install could maybe have been done nicer but over all it's a nice idea.

is it so impossible to replace the our gearbox in the transaxle and keep the original design we must go front mounted to go strong?

arent there any tranaxles that can be adapted to 75/gtv for same amount of money it takes to do front mount conversion?

Corvette box and torque tube, that idea has been around for quite a bit...i'd give it a go, if it weren't for the fact there is no way I can find a cheap Corvette box here.... :?

It's also incredibly large so I wouldn't rule out floor changes to be needed.

Porsche 944 or 928 are transaxles too but LSD version is very rare and expensive. Also has the torque-tube design.

944 boxes have the gears behind the helfshafts if I recall correctly and therefore won't fit.

here we go again with all the rear trans changes  .

Actually, the one shown on the link above is probably the best I have seen. The PO has welded all the mounts and fabed a bell housing out of something? Just a real nice unit which would be in my garage if it was located in the USA

I have two LSD porsche 968 transaxles, and believe me, you do not want these in the gtv6. You would have to cut the torque tube and somehow manufacture a shrot driveshaft or design a new input fork and guard at rea end. Also front end bell housing work will be significant.

The T5 conversion is nice and I have part of one for my Jag 4.0 engine. I million variations of the T5 transmission , some good, and some usual US junk.

As for me, i stick with our alfa trans. I am rebuilding my ZF LSD with parts from OKP. trying to find friction discs. Gears going down to Rich Jemison for lightening. I am balancing and lightening the flywheel at a local shop.

If this effort does not produce a good trans, I give up.

The problem is that it won't hold much more power/torque, even with your extensive work done to it. :(

But there are more easy approaches to fitting a box upfront.. For my GTV4 I needed to make a gearbox directly to the engine, I'm planning at least 400 bhp and the transaxle is not the best choice then... I'm very sorry to tell the engine is a Saab 16v Turbo   :wall: , i just know this is wrong but it's also cheap to get a lot of power out of. I've fitted an Alfa Sei diff in the rear and made a Getrag 260 from a BMW E30 325i fit the Saab engine. I just cut of part of the bellhousing from the Bmw box and welded on another piece that fitted the engine ) after careful measuring offcourse.) This way the box was fairly cheap... 8)
Doing this with a part of the Alfa v6 flywheelhousing would not be to hard and then you can use the 164 flywheel and clutch cover with the bmw plate. Clutch cilinder is already hydraulic so that's easy.

Sacrilege!!!!!! :D :D :D

I know it's an old debate, but there definetely has to be a way to fit a corvette transaxle.

I guess one of the many reasons people go with a front mounted gearbox is the amount of choices one has as far as gearboxes go...besides cost...

omg...

That is just sooo wrong. :x
I have a late incarnation of that engine in my daily driver and the engine is the worst part of the car, incredibly depressing driving experience. Horesepower isn't everything and that engine is the best proof I know of I'm sad to say.

On the plus side all tooling and IP are sold to China, so soon you will be able to buy really cheap parts that look exactly like the Saab parts but will break during transport. ;)
