I just did a web search and found:
http://www.maserati.org.au/gallery/MASE ... _spec.html
Maybe the heads were optomized for the 2.0L displacement and the increase to 2.8L was simply boring and stroking.
At least they went to a 4-valve engine from the 3-valve versions we saw in the States during the 80's. The chassis sounds similar.
The Italian repair shop I used to hang around at in Spokane WA USA had a 2.8 B-Turbo for a while. Seems like the conclusion we came up with was that, stock versus stock, the Maserati had more power (obviously) but the GTV6 had better handling. Paper analysis kind of shows that as well.

Can't really compare a GTV6 with anything with a TT.
Anyway, I know that the Ghibli Cup had a LOT of BHP coming from a 2.0L V6 TT, like 320 bhp, and 340 bhp in Open Cup trim. That was back in the mid '90s!!!!
So this 2.8 should make some stonking good power!
I wonder how it sounds though, Barry, as good as an Alfa V6?? Better I suppose

Ghibli. Shamal. Would trade the Alfa on one... Italian, Hairdryers, not costing 190k Sterling (F40)... please!!
Reminds me of the guy that pulled up beside me @ a set of lights, when mine was a 2.0.... he smiled, and said "I started with one of those"... this shamal was red, with 19" deep dish wheels, and when he took off, it chalked them for three gears. I heart those cars!

Fixing it bit by bit....
Hello Merril,long time no hear!!..
This car is absolutly amazing..While driving it(I have had it on numerous occasions, including some boost controll work )I was totally amazed at the off boost characteristics of the engine..It has stupendously long ratios ,yet pulls as well as ,if not stronger than a 12v 30l Alfa ..And then you have 1 bar (14.7psi)boost with a furter 0.4 bar overboost as std.!I am currently building my 17th single turbo ALfa 30l...and Im at a loss for words figuring out how to make the Alfa engine perform more like the Masser..This is surely one of the great factory turbo engines ever built...
It runs a front box,Gertrac, same as Aston Martin something, and a mother of a differential out back..Same as Ferrari 550,575 m use..Yet they still all whine and grumble..The exterior lines are probably some of the most beautifull ever designed..The interior looks like a porn stars pimp ride..(I watch a lot of tv...)
Typical ape driving style, long arm reach, short pedal reach...The whole car is just so well thought out and executed..The wheels look pretty mundane, but are a super lightweight, dont know if they are magnesium, probably not,but are 10j rear and 9j fronts...Pieces of art...
The most incredible thing here is its pulling ability...She will do an honest 280km/h with no effort..it just pulls,pulls,pulls...
Brake are pretty impressive for std. setup. We are looking at something bettr though.
The bad thing here beside the interior??The engine has a flat plane crank and this thing sounds like a 70`s 3 cyl Charade! Much the same as the AUtodelta Montreal v8 sounded like a 4 cyl..
I need to to do timing belts and the short chain drive from one cam to the next..motor out for that Im afraid....We are also looking at a capacity pumpup for the future....The construction of the engine is brilliant.typical race stuff..sump is part of the lower main bearing girdle...
The 2.0l Ghibli cup cars had less power than the 2.8l,but could be made to make horrendous amounts of power...They are the preferred cars to have I am told..
Once she`s up and running,Ill take some clips, just need someone to host for me..any takers??

I enjoyed the read Barry. All in all, it sounds like a pretty nice car with bags of power. The USA missed out on some pretty fun stuff like this car. I just love the unusual and oddball cars out there.
Yea, I haven't been posting much lately, but I still read regularly so I'm keeping up with most of the happenings.
