Well I for one never had a problem with people trying to sell stuff as long as they were upfront and honest about it. It takes some bottle to try and make stuff up on a forum with Barry, Greg, Mats and all the other transaxle gurus ready to spot any guff. Its good that new stuff is still coming out for these cars.

Two ideas:

1) In my browsing the web I notice a lot of broken links pointing to the old address. I have not e-mailed any webmasters figuring it was out of line for me (a humble user) to do so. Perhaps a collective campaign to correct these links would be in order.

2) A lot of traffic is generated by new ideas. A great example is Greg Gordon's supercharger. So what is an idea that will generate interest? I suggest a Grassroots Motorsports 2006 challenge car. A few people would do the work the rest of us would "stand around" offering advice. It would generate traffic, but we need a volunteer.

Just some ideas...

PS I love the site and bought at GTV6 primarily because such a great site existsed to get help from!

Ok guys thanks for the wake-up call.Just sent some cash to Michael.After all step one is to ensure that this site has the resources to continue going.You've all raised some excellent points.I'd like to give my 2 cents worth.

1) Greg Gordon .Yes I've noticed that he isn't as active as in the past.I truly hope that that is entirely due to his being busy with other stuff.When I first became an Alfisti 5 years ago his guidance was the difference between getting lost in what can be a complex maze and seeing the way clear to enjoying a hobby while not spending too much cash (at least that what I tell my wife).The products he has developed are truly useful and well researched and I for one am glad to see him discussing them here.The same applies for all you other people who are forever working to make our cars stop turn and go faster.

2)Maldi's idea re Grassroots Motorsports is an excellent one.The young guys I race against-including my 17 year old son are very up on this magazine.I've often thought that a "project GTV6" would interest a lot of people.I'm going to write their Canadian office tonight and suggest this to them.After all attracting young people to our cult is critical.

3) All you overseas guys - Your contributions are always interesting and valuable.You're fortunate to live in markets where the Alfa brand is still alive and evolving.Your ideas are forever giving me ideas on where I'd like to go with my hobby in the future.I must make one exception to these positive comments JimK got me in big trouble by suggesting that the kitchen was one of the best places to ensure cleanliness when I was rebuilding my engine.My wife caught me washing pistons and liners in the sink and..........

I have agonised about this before I decided to say my piece so in the end I am just going to say what I feel rather than what might be politically correct.

Business is what keeps everybody alive on the planet. We have stopped hunting and gathering berries along time ago to survive.

I am not aware of any user of this site that doesn't have the intelligence to spot an exploiter coming and to a large extent we all keep an eye out for each other to protect ourselves from exploitation so there is a safety net.

If we were to insist on a purely black and white policy of no commercial interest participation, some key contributors to this site who we all love and respect (and get a sh*t of good honest advice from) would need to stop participation. Would this be a good idea? I don't think so. Especially when we derive great benefit from their collective personal and commercial knowledge .

It happens to be a two way street. Some businesses derive benefit from endorsement from the members and some members derive benefit from patronising businesses indirectly associated with the site. It's called mutual benefit.

So my line is a happy co-existance of the two as it represents the real world that we all live in.

I am sure any commercial operator that has an exploitation mindset is going to be a brave person indeed to enter the lion's den and not have his private's chewed off in a flash if they do the wrong thing.

I also was helped in my GTV6 buying decision by this site and Greg's.

I'd love to see the GRM challenge happen. In fact if I hadn't got so much going on right now, I'd be doing it and roping the other East of ATL buddies in. We've already got the inventory of gearboxes and clutches guys... :idea:

I think there has been a slow down. In my case it's just that I am so busy I don't have time to post like I used too. That's largely the result of my kids getting deeper into the teen years.

Also I try to limit the number of posts I write about my products. I don't want the site to be a Greg Gordon commercial. Since most of what I do now is related to Supercharging (I seriously doubt I will ever build another normally aspirated engine) just about everything I am doing is commercial to an extent.

Speaking of supercharging....I was quite busy fixing the belt tensioner on my kit, plus I NEED to get the new solid discharge pipe shipped to the original purchasers because the old style discharge set up has some issues. These two issues have consumed a lot of my time .

The Alfa BB is a nice site, but it's not for the hardcore folks. A post there about a new type of forged piston will get fewer hits then one about shoes or watches.

Once my dad gets back from his trip with Superverde I will have more time. I am sharing the expense of that trip with him because it's sort of the ultimate proving run and advertizement for my supercharger kit. It's not some run down to the dyno shop, it's Dallas, to Washington D.C. to Dallas, to California and back. Mountains, deserts, bumper to bumper traffic, long stretches of highway, and the occasional drag race!

I will write a big long post about all this once my dad is back.

Hey Guys:

I've attached some stats which tend to indicate that over the past year, visits are increasing pretty consistently month over month :) so I don’t reckon there is anything to worry about. The guy who bought the gtv6.org domain name has a link here so hopefully, everyone who has looked for us has found us here again...

Its true that there was some concern about people using the forum to sell products a bit too much - but I think we have arrived at a good 'balance' now where we get to hear about new products/options without too much overt commercialism (IMHO). Its a pretty tough balance to strike without an explicit set of guidelines to refer to (which is the way I like it).

As far as building interest goes, I'd highly encourage anyone who is involved in a GTV6 project to document this here in the forum - I find those types of posts to be very interesting and frequently educational too!
I will post my own engine upgrade project over the winter...
Oh, and a Grass Roots Motorsports 2006 challenge car would be awesome to see :!:

I'd like to say that i think this site is great, there is just sooo much information on this and the old site, but it has been slow at times, which is interesting because every time i log in there's another newly registered user and those statistics say otherwise.
Maybe there could be a "current projects" section for jobs like sebs 3.0 conversion and other projects people are going to document/photo progress along the way?

The depth of knowledge in fixing or upgrading a transaxle alfa is this sites strength and got me hooked but it would be good to have more funny stories........
like JimK s 205kph taxi over taking pinging engine explosion :D too
I gladly donated some money to help because i've printed off a few A4 folders of info and felt a bit guilty not to :shock:

I think this site is great, it's always my first port of call for any expertise about our chosen favourite cars.

Excellent balance of : general helpful info, good tips, very strong technical input from some, all commercial interest is kept entirely above board and appropriate.

Volume of posts seems to go up and down, but the only reason I don't post more is that a/ just like everybody else on forum I find the rest of my life gets in the way! b/ not done anything interesting with the GTV in last few weeks !

fyi The only interesting car things I've got planned are a Megasquirt tuning dyno session booked for a couple of weeks & sort out the front brake upgrade. I intend to post about these afterwards.

There's some good ideas in the earlier posts on this thread for increasing interest.

Lastly don't forget maximum credit to Michael for managing the site for us all.

I'm one of the many (?) who make it a point to visit and read the site often but rarely make a posting. That's partly because of my limited tech knowledge/abilities.... I don't feel qualified to get involved in discussions about degress of cam-lift and such stuff. What I really appreciate is the advice about "how do I take this thingy off without breaking it" or "what's the best way to fix my broken whatsit".

I also don't go to the race track because I would hate to make the mistake that totals the car. What I do love is driving it on public roads and maybe we could have a part of the forum on "best roads to drive an Alfa". For example, I go from Denver to Albuquerque once or twice a year via US 285. Some sections of that might have been especially designed for a GTV6. There are a couple of mountain passes with long sweeps, no Highway Patrol, no traffic and spectacular views (you do have to balance looking at the road with looking at the views if you're at full throttle!!). The section through the gorge of the Rio Grande from Taos toward Santa Fe is as brilliant a piece of road to drive as I have ever been on..... mostly empty, twisty, fast ....and pretty.

There's also a back foothills road from Denver to Colorado Springs which is pure joy to drive (although I've had to talk my way out of a couple of tickets on that one).

I know I'd appreciate tips on where to exploit the GTV6's potential if other's would care to give them. More strength and long life to the forum and thankyou Michael for maintaining it!

A "Projects" forum is a great idea, We've had that on our Swedish board several years now and it's always nice to flip through for info/inspiration.

John in Denver: Go to the track, you don't have to drive 100%. The learning curve is just soo steep at the track, you don't have to worry about anything except the track and the car, truly fantastic.
I recommend the track to anyone who is interested in being a better driver.


I took the 75 Turbo for a spin today for the first time in three months, damn it's fun... :D
Throwing it around and powersliding through the curves without any problem what-so-ever.
Then I spent six hours cleaning it, I just got home and I'm having a beer. :)
