Maserati Ghibli GT
I really love this car. After watching Grand Tour Nation, I wished I lived in Euroke or UK. Damn this car is H O T!

Re: Maserati Ghibli GT
Great cars but I personally prefer the 424 with four doors. More practical and inconspicuous. This one sells for 7,500€ now...Beautiful! Just think of the 3-way suspension adjustment at the push of a button!

Re: Maserati Ghibli GT
What about parts availability? Reliability, well forget about making it a daily driver.
I definitely do not trust 80's/90's adjustable shock system. Although people have successfully fixed the 164S dual mode shocks. I would change it all out to custom valved shocks. My old 164S' dual mode suspension was actually pretty decent., but not for serious track driving. Only a good weekend drive in the mountains.
I'd love to make this a weekend/fun track day car. Definitely not for setting good lap times, but just a good brisk drive on the track and give the V8 M3s something to think about.
The looks of the Ghibli Cup and Ghibli GT is simply fantastic. But I think a 2.8 with lower boost looks like the better choice.

Re: Maserati Ghibli GT
The only reason I didn't trade my 75 3liter+$$ back in '98 for a beautiful light blue 424 (but with a Ghibli Cup 320hp engine) was RELIABILITY -or better, the lack of. The owner of the dealership was a good friend and he talked me out of buying the car. Since then, I have come across many Maser stories and talked to many owners, confirming the problem. One of the local reps unofficially confirms the same: Stupid things go wrong all the time for no reason at all, no matter if the car is meticulously maintained. This all was enough to put me off... There was a guy I talked to who had had enough of strange glitches but loved the car too much to sell it. So, he bought a new 4wd Escort back then to move around in and put the Maser up on blocks!

Re: Maserati Ghibli GT
Hi Jim
I had a customer at my garage who had a Quattroporte III/Royale approx.1998/1999.He'd leave it with me for a couple of weeks when he went away on business, so I got to do a lot of "road-tests".If I remember correctly it had 4 Weber 2bbl.carbs.Owner took zero care of fuel system so I had them apart far too many times. My recollection is that it was basically a Cadillac on steroids with beautiful leather.Whenever I drove it, I dreamt of being out on the Autostrada at a high rate of speed with 4 large passengers smoking cigars.Strange eh !

Re: Maserati Ghibli GT
Hey Canada is not a bad place to be. You can import a 2002 car there. Next year you can get a 2003 156 GTA there. Nice! I might consider moving there. The silicon valley is too expensive. Traffic sucks anyway and you can't get cool old cars.
I just love the late 90's 4-cam Masers. But this has got to be a strictly weekend car. It makes the 75 look like a Honda, reliability wise.

Re: Maserati Ghibli GT
Murray, I have no info at all on the carb cars. I was enchanted with the 4-cam ones, after ~1992. At the low end of the scale was the 2liter V6 with 245hp and high up the Ghibli Cup 2liter with 320hp. Remember the old legendary ad trick of taping a $100 bill on the windshield of a AC Shelby Cobra and asking the customer to take it off while the car was accelerating? Well, they tried this here in Athens in a Ghibli with the boost turned up.....
No, the guy couldn't reach the bill!
Z, I've said it before...If I was younger I'd move back to Canada. Along with Oz, its on the top of the list of 'best countries to live in'.
