So you switched the Hall sensor for a VR? Why?

I didn't swap it, it's just all that was to hand. Had two GTV6 distributors, one in the car and one spare, both were exactly the same, so I locked up my spare one and am using that as described for MS spark.

The car is an early 83, so the distributor was probably made in 82 at best. I'm sure all the later ones and 75's are hall sensor which should be easier to work with.

I see very very little spark timing "scatter" using this compared to the original ignition system, and all of that scatter is probably due to the little bit of backlash present in the V6 cam drive mechanism.

I'm sure EDIs would be the "best" option in terms of zero "scatter" and oem reliability if you can get hold of the parts and attach ford toothed wheel & sensor.

I have never seen a VR sensor in a v6 dissy, two wires?
I hope you are right though, that would mean that I maybe can run my oem 60-2 wheel/VR-sensor. :D

Yes, but I see a potential problem, you use every signal from the sensor to fire the coil. I need the MS to actually count them and interpret a 60-2 pattern and fire at the right time, not the same thing. :?
I have a possible lead on a redesign of the board to make the MS use VR instead of Hall for the 60-2 application.

But I wonder if it's worth the work, maybe I should sell the MS stuff and go VEMS instead. :roll:

I just fired up megatune v 514 and under the "Code Config" menu heading choose "codebase & output functions". The 3rd box down allows you to choose "generic wheel". Also set your spark output from wherever you want (mine is set instead of "fidle").

Once that's done, close that page and again from the menu "Code Config" open "wheel decoder settings" and on that page you can specify the number of teeth on your wheel, how many missing teeth & the trigger points (I suspect the trigger must be specified in degrees BTDC, but you best double check the MS forum as I haven't any experience of using this).

Seems pretty straightforward as you measure precisely BTDC where the missing 2 teeth are attached to the pulley. On the v6 front pulley exactly 1mm of circumference is exactly 1 degree, if the 4cyl front pulley is also 360mm circumference that'll make it easier to time up prior to first start.

Went to the garage and had a look at the CAS, sure enough it had three wires... Hopefully that means Hall effect. :twisted:

Had a look at the electric scheme (why didn't I do that from the start?), one pin is sheild. :?

Resistance between two pins is changed if I move a piece of metal next to the sensor but only if it's moving...

Frickin VR, I knew it. :evil:

I know the VR sensor on my ducati will generate 6 or 7 volts between two pins if I bring a piece of metal across it quickly. Voltage amplitude seems to vary with speed of the metal that moves across it. It also seems to have the same resistance no matter wich way I connect the meter. Havent played with a hall sensor yet but I thought they need 5 volts power before they function.

Let me know if your going the VEMS route. Im considering the same. Maybe we can compare notes before placing an order. Know anyone who has installed a VEMS system?
