Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?

Not sure if you are looking for specific oil suggetions... but... a preferred transaxle oil here for both street and race boxes with LSD is Redline 75/90NS, as is. There are probably others, but this one seems to do the job.

Re: identification plate under bonnet missing

Here is a pic off of eBay from a gtv6 showing the location of the VIN plate on a US GTV6 - there is also a smaller plate in the window with only the VIN number.

Re: identification plate under bonnet missing

On US spec cars this plate (or what I think you are referring to) is mounted at the drivers' door jam - on the B-pillar towards the bottom.

I don't recall the URL. It was created by a 164 alfista. I have a pdf version stored I can email if you PM me your email address. It will not let me attach the pdf file here...

Re: Cam belt change

I would still put crank at TDC, cams at marks, etc. Even if you don't have your 41 mm socket to turn the crank this is doable by putting the car in a high'ish gear and push it to turn the engine over. This way if something does go wrong you are in a well-known position, making it easy to recover. If...

Got it running? What's the result? Did you also get the adjustable sprockets? Remapped the engine?

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?

Kevin,
There is an existing thread on the same topic with some info: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2670
I have since decided not to add a transmission oil cooler - one more thing to break, and I don't think the temps (I'm seeing) is a problem.

Re: Sprint/Trackday car advice

Technically, you can have more rear brake bias in the rear as the overall grib reduces, e.g. in the wet. Less overall grib = less weight transfer to the front during (maximum) braking = greater contact patch at the rear tires = use it for more effective braking by increasing rear brake bias. Same re...

Re: driveshaft conversion

This only applies to single-piece shaft! You want the 3-ear'ed flanges at the ends of the one-piece shaft to be offset by 60*. If you look at one of the halfs of a stock shaft I believe the 3 ears between two ends (of a half) are actually aligned. Note that all this is not discovered/invented by me,...

Re: driveshaft conversion

The weight is what the scale said - not sure what else to tell you... Alfa transaxle cars have had problems with vibration if the flanges were aligned. And, crome moly, I believe it was, one piece shafts have been done. Finally, yes, shaft has been balanced.

Re: driveshaft conversion

Just kidding, looks nice, how much did it set you back? I was originally quoted close to $1500, but I got a considerable discount by having two made and work with them. At the end it was close to $1200, but I think it is low priority for them, and it took some time - 2 to 3 months. Contributing to ...

Re: Niclas Rosengren (Sweden)

Great looking racer! Very impressive (low) weight for a V6! Anything particular (beyong just gutting relentlessly) that you did to achieve that? Do you by any chance have the corner weights as well? I'm also curious about the engine support/restraint that attaches to the area where the ground strap ...

Re: 3 liter, 24 valve engine project

BTW, if it is the same coil pack that always fires and the same two that never do, then I doubt it is the crank angle sensor. Wouldn't that cause more of a random firing among the coil packs? As to the TPS, I didn't mean to imply this would cause coil packs not to fire, but rather that in case you h...

Re: 3 liter, 24 valve engine project

Hmm, are you sure this is not caused by chuck's map not being suitable for your setup for some reason? Did you adopt the same TPS? Doesn't Chuck run a mix of TPS and MAP for load (I bet yours come with only MAP)? Watch out, there could be differences causing non/poor running. Not sure that the CAS i...
