Re: Upgrading a 3.0L 24V
If I were you and money was not an issue I would leave your 24v GTV6 alone and find another GTV6 to build. I would do a 3.5 24v twin-turbo with front mounted Getrag 6 spd gearbox. This would take serious engineering and modification, so you would need to find someone willing to build for you. Don't ...

Re: Exhaust Leak
...I would have just stuck with the standard manifolds for they flow very well indeed. Or copied their exact same design but slightly larger diameter..? Stock manifolds on a 24v in a GTV6 :? This is not something you just buy off the shelf. You are lucky if someone makes something you can buy (with...

Re: Drive Shaft CV's keep breaking
I use a special motorsport grease which I've bought some years ago from a WTCC mechanic. Unfortunately, I don't know what type or brand it is as it came in a blank container. The grease Dennis mentioned is used by most racers over here, they all speak very highly of it. Are you referring to the mag...

Re: Drive Shaft CV's keep breaking
What kind of breakage?
I haven't experienced any issues. Could it be that modification of Dedion has altered distance/angle from hub to transaxle output flange beyond some critical measure. Didn't Kevin mention someone in SA having issues with that on Alfettas?

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Thanks for pointer Kevin. I will also check origin of bearings when I pull them out - I can just imagine they are Chinese made. Though, I only buy from reputable Alfa parts suppliers, but you never know. New bearings going in are SKF.

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Raced 2 weeks ago in 100F ambient, and my temps were as foolows: 1. Coolant: 220F 2. Engine oil: 230F 3. Transaxle oil: 230F This is with sensors and dash gauges, observed during race - not with external infrared measurements after the fact in the pits. I have no plans to add transaxle oil cooler. I...

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Certainly unsprung! Less inertia for the syncros to deal with. On a street car I would use a sprung disk. Also on the 155 consider that you have no give (like couplings on the 75) between engine and clutch.Zamani wrote:Jes,

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Kevin,
This is all custom work - there is no link to something bolt-on. I'm using an Alfetta clutch housing and the Alfetta clutch slave setup (that mounts off the clutch cover instead of off the "V6" bracket further back.)

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Diameter of clutch in inches - much smaller and lighter than stock, including flywheel - clutch housing looks empty. Light weight clutch disk is good for syncros. Smaller diameter reduces inertia, and low weight is helpful in general. All well-known.

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Jes , how many laps have you done ? Kevin, I ran the 3.7 for one track day + lots of dyno with a stock 100k mile transaxle  After that I basically took the car apart for some major changes - still apart as real work has not allowed me time to finish it  The box originally built for the...

Mats, you must be confusing things - got 100s of thousand of miles over many years without any issues.Mats wrote:Read= This oil is not to be used for Hypoid gears, it will not work.

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
The clutch plates can "stick" to each other making some noise. Have never noticed any noise with 75/90NS - track or street. I think that one concern from adding the LSD friction modifiers or use the (75/90 which has the LSD friction modifiers) is that this may be generic instructions for ...

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Mats, each to his own. I will note that you and Micke believe 75/90NS, as is, is NOT correct for our transaxles with LSD... though, don't say I didn't give you a heads up.

Re: When should a gearbox have an oil cooler ?
Funny indeed. Just proves that you cannot rely on the manufacturers info blindly - 75/90NS is the one to use for OUR transaxles with LSD, as is, without any modifiers. This is an example of the problem MD was getting at, I think.
