Re: Air Conditioning constantly on?! 1985 GTV6

Jon it is normal for the compressor belt to be constantly spinning. The pulley on the face of the compressor is attached to an electromagnetic clutch. When you command AC on ,and the system is functional, the clutch is engaged and then the belt rotation will be transferred through the clutch to the co...

Re: Very weird coolant leak WTF?

PietereQ if I remember correctly one or more of the bolts which fasten the alternator bracket also serve to fasten the water pump to the cylinder block,so either the pump gasket requires replacement or it will simply reseal itself when you re-attach the bracket.

Re: replacement headlights

Guys 4 years ago I decided I'd had it with poor lighting on my GTV6 and contacted Daniel Stern. He recommended Cibie lights with Narva bulbs - 100W in the high only and 100/90 W in the high/low.I wired these up with relays and have been very satisfied for 4 years.Yes I could fry a steak on them but t...

Oscar no that is not what I intended to suggest.I was referring strictly to the non LSD GTV6 box.The TS box requires the limited slip additive to work correctly as you stated.Overall I found the TS box to be much better and less touchy about oil grades and types than the GTV6 but it does require a L...

badger77 Some may find my recommendation strange but I have tried a wide variety of gear oils in my GTV6 - including synthetics and have settled on cheap and nasty Motomaster 80W90 from Canadian tire.it is identified as "extreme pressure" and contains NO limited slip additives - very impor...

why the h-ll are there tapered roller bearings in your gearbox? Good question Mats - one to which I don't have an answer  This is a 1986 Isostatic link transaxle which has been in my car since I bought it 6 or so years ago.Should I consider myself privledged or was it a production run change...

Z about 4 years ago I rebuilt my transaxle and at the time I discovered a large chunk of the intermediate plate was cracked and came off in my fingers (see highlighted area) .What I did was fabricate a half-moon brace out of steel similar to the one the factory used which is seen at 7 o'clock in ima...

badger77 it sounds as if you experienced "plenum pop".Run a search on this site and you'll see that it is fairly common. What happens is you get a backfire and the explosive force travels back up through the air intake path. The most common result is that the air plenum pops off the six runn...

Greg I don't have a diagram but I can assure you that once you have the rotor and C-clip off the trigger wheel is only held on by interferance between its bore and the shaft.I've had mine on and off many times while setting up Megasquirt ignition control. My next suggestion would be to get a propane ...

shOrtlife a 30A relay will work fine.Peak current draw of the solenoid is 38A and a 30A relay can deal with that short-term with no difficulty.

Brett if your using an MSII V3.0 board then the low impedance injector driver circuit is integrated. It works just fine.I've been running mine for over 2 years.Do a search on the MS site regarding the use of resistors ,I vaguely remember reading something about their use messing with injector opening...

Greg the "silver cap" you're trying to get off is the trigger wheel and they are difficult to get off.Once you have the c-clip off there's nothing else holding it on.It's a combination of tight tolerance on the bore and years of oxidation. If you are going to be reusing it you have to be ve...

sh0rtlife good chance i can re-use the crimped piece too as over the years ive gotten good at carefully prying "normal ones open to re-use on "odd" applications or quick roadside fixes... Unfortunately I don't think this is possible. As you will see in my little diagram the threaded en...
