Re: Cold Engine Start Up
Cchan one of the best explanations of the principals involved is on Greg Gordon's website http://www.hiperformancestore.com/Ljetronic.htm Scroll down to "Cold start system" Basically your engine needs a richer mixture on cold start than it does otherwise and on the L-Jet system there are 2...

Re: Hot fuses and wires for radiator fans
gwaylo if your fuse is the appropriate size and it is not blowing under the conditions you describe then it sounds as though you have high resistance between the fuse and fan motors which is producing the heat.If you can, take a voltmeter and measure the voltage drop between the fuse and the fans.It...

Re: bilstien or koni
MR2 Zig my experience has been with Koni's on my 86 GTV6.When I got the car it had Koni reds.I decided I wanted to use my car on the track as well as the street and decided to upgrade my suspension.I installed "performance" rear springs and Milano Verde torsion bars.At the same time I inst...

Re: Kevin GTV's and other Alfa's
Kevin the Brera may have its weaknesses, fwd (I presume it's not an AWD model ?) ,motor, and excess weight but it sure is a good looking machine.Looking at it actually stirs some passion, something that can't be said about very many cars these days. By the way what's with the selective carjacking based...

Re: Tie Rod Adjustment?
Mel based on your description it sounds like what you need are Inner tie-rods,they wear just like the outers and might need to be replaced. The steering damper ,which looks like a lift strut has no role in "steering play" and is likely just sitting there doing nothing. In theory they were in...

Re: BATTERY KEEPS DRAINING. HELP!
Greg - acceptable "at rest" battery draw for a car of this era would be up to about 50ma.so something is going on ? - are you sure you're reading the scale on your meter correctly ? - are you certain the battery you installed is good ? - are you certain your alternator is charging correctl...

Re: valve springs
I have run the "performance" springs from IAP for 3 years on my 86 GTV6 with S cams.Car is regularly tracked and I see 7200 or so rpm on a regular basis. No problems. My understanding is that these springs are essentially "blueprinted" versions of the stock springs.

Re: 75 Twin Spark timing chains replacement
Oscar another thing that can happen is the chain tensioner sticks in place and loosening the bolt is not sufficient to increase the tension on the chain. What I have done is remove the valve cover and then with a long screwdriver reach down and "encourage" the tensioner to move towards the ...

Re: Driveshaft removal, donut replacement
Fred to add to MD's comments I would suggest that you have a look at this write-up by MichaelH which offers some good advice. http://www.alfagtv6.com/drv_shft.htm You're fortunate to have an 86 which has the removable centre support which makes the job easier than the earlier models. Two additional ...

Re: GTV6 wont start
Roger my experience with HT leads has convinced me that the best choice is to spend the money and get the OEM ones.I've tried a variety of aftemarket leads and have never been satisfied. The proper wires cost more but you'll have peace of mind for a long time thereafter. Some people have run "Mag...

Well if you guys are going to hijack this thread then I might as well join in  This subject is one which I think about alot as I make my living repairing cars (garage owner) and I live on a continent where our economy depends to a great extent on manufacturing cars.As I watch all the goings on,...

Re: GTV6 wont start
Roger the coil wire is very important and could explain a large part of your starting problem. It appears that the wire's contact has seperated and remains in the top of the coil.Try to pull it out and re-attach it.The Cold Start Valve is wired to the Thermal Time Switch and is grounded through that ...

Re: GTV6 wont start
Roger the "fuel pump relay" is in fact part of the combination relay so if you've replaced that with a working one then that's not the problem. As was mentioned above, the fuel pump is also wired through the Air Flow Meter and this part of the circuit is closed when the "flapper" ...
