Re: Rust in inner sills and footwell

Hi Paul,

Does your new place have a chin up bar in the door frame that I can hit my nut on?

Cheers, Tony

Re: Rust in inner sills and footwell

Mr Bird how are you sir? Not had much chance this year to do that much work on mine. My Mother passed away in March and have spent a lot of time dealing with her effects. I started again last month on the car taking of all the old underseal to find anymore rust, thankfully I have not found any Yet. ...

Hi I have the same problem as you although I think the amount of rust I have in small by comparison. I was deciding between paying someone to do it (Alex Jupe) or doing it myself. I would get much more joy doing it myself but do not have the required skills. At the moment I am going with option 2 an...

Nice car but how about a 164 with a difference, 2 v6 engines!!! Few details on the car: Highlight for many people was the sight of Mike twin engined 164 'Bimotore' special. Mike had no need of the rear seats in his 164, so decided to replace them with another three litre V6 driving the rear wheels i...

MJR, I'm not in complete agreement with your mechanic friend. Yes the factory applied the Shutz like coating but it was not on to bare metal. On my GTV6 when you remove the Shutz your get to a new panel like coating. Think of a new wing for a ford for example, it comes coated in a black coating (not...

Yep, I did mean Alex Jupe, must learn to spell! I took my dion tube, watts linkage & roll bars down to Alex, he has a guy who blasts then powder coats them. The extra protection was put on by most if not all UK dealers before selling. Horrible stuff that gets every where, but did it do its job? ...

Sounds like I am at the same point as you, repairing some areas of rust on the underside. This envolved removing the tar like stuff first then removing from the wooden floor, carpet on the stairs, cats fur and my hair, god I hate that stuff as dose the wife. Now I have almost finished the repairs I ...

Funny thing is I drained the oil about two weeks ago before removing the transaxle. The gearbox is curently empty. How ...

It is sticking up about .8cm above the surface of the transaxle. Does it breath through the top or from the bottom (out the sides)?

Thing on top of Diff

Got a strange one. On the top left hand side of the differential is as round thing that is rusty colour. In the first picture below you will see it is reasonably dry. In the second picture taken a day later there is a nice pool of gearbox fluid. Worth mentioning that I drained the fluid a couple of ...

Brake & clutch pipe retaining brackets.

'Brackets' the wrong word really, should be bits of folded metal. The brake and clutch pipes are held in place on the underneath using metal which is spot welded to the bottom of the car and folded over the pipe. Most of mine have succumed to rust. Not sure how or what to replace these with, here ar...

Dion out, no real problems encountered. Found quite a bit of rust though, thankfully most of it looks superficial. Next jobs: Remove driveshaft Sort rusty areas Blast Dion, Watts linakage and anything else I find (not wife though, to good at making tea) Paint the above (using Epoxy Mastic from www.r...

And much cheaper. I use Highwood Alfa here in the UK and they quote:

Dual plate £550

Single plate £260

Are any modification required to fit the single plate?

Cheers, Tony

Thanks for the reply guys. While I have the clutch out do you think it is worth replacing the dual plate (only covered 55,000 miles) with a single plate unit? I have read that this is a good upgrade as it makes the clucth more progressive but am not sure if it is worth waiting until mine is knackere...
