Re: Exhaust valves
Trimming down the guides depends on your cam profile, valve spring strength and max RPM you'll be going. Imagine the force on the valve if you'd be getting a little float on closing at 7800 rpm and the extra strong springs whacking it onto the seat. That's what would cause deformation and eventually...

Re: Selector Rod Centering Spring Broken
Gently heating the shaft with a propane torch, while putting a wet cloth on the retaining spring should help it come loose as well I'd reckon? If really required, there should be metal workers that will be able make a new spring for you. Granted, it would cost an insane amount of money for such a li...

Re: 75 or 164 Motronic crank pulley?
The Busso V6 engine used external balancing. That means that the crank itself isn't balanced to 0 grams, but was balanced to predetermined un-balance. Doing that, saved an enormous amount of weight on the counter-weights on the crank itself. This means that you do need the pulley and the flywheel of...

Re: Pencil Coils For a 12Valve???
You'll need some form of distributorless triggering of the coils. That would boil down to some form of ECU rather quickly, unless you want to fabricate your own analogue electronics, or mechanical advance system with 6 contact points. My suggestion would be to go to your local car wreck yard and get...

Re: JK's v6 book
The 155 V6 engine changed cam follower tappet size in MY95. The first 3 years the smaller ones were used. The 12V 3.0 used in the 164 (started in MY93 with the FaceLift, or was it MY92?) had the bigger ones as far as I know, but it could be they changed to bigger ones later. The 916 spider 3.0 12V h...

Re: Promoting items sold by members
Although I have no problem with the activities of either person at all, I think this is a slippery slope and may have more consequences than you would initially think. First of all, both are already known well enough to not need a banner for visitors to click on. In their case, it will be a recognit...

Re: JK's v6 book
I tried e-mailing Veloce about ordering the book, but I got a bounce from their ISP. I don't think the gods want me to buy this.

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
I'll keep that in mind when my numbers come up. Until then, I'm afraid I won't have any more budget than for about a single tire on it.

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Selling the Stratos??? It's unfortunate that you never got to enjoy it. Maybe put in a 24V 3.0 engine and just drive it like that?

Re: JK's v6 book
Argh... even the currency converter is a mess at Veloce. They state the Euro price just one click further. Then they only accept credit cards. Really, how hard is it to accommodate international buyers?

How will the chain hold up? I've heard quite a few stories of chains needing replacement because they slack rather quick on road cars.

Re: JK's v6 book
Guy Croft decided to do his own publishing of his new book. Maybe you should talk to him if you ever plan on doing a new book? Anyway, maybe your retirement will give you an opportunity to make some money on doing Alfa related tech work? With your reputation, getting customers should be relatively e...
