As you can see (sort of), the bearings for this rod are in good condition. No discoloration to speak of, no obvious wear on the bearings or the journal.
The groove is longer in the counterclockwise direction.

This groove is only on the journal for cyl #4. That is the first rod journal. I will see if I can post a picture later.

I had a mechanic friend look at it today and he said that it looked like a factory oil groove. He reasoned that it is too big a groove to appear on its own. He said that he had seen similar grooves on engines that threw rods, but that isnt the case here. The groove is smooth and there is no blueing ...

Thanks Barry,
This is a deep groove and it would definitely require more than the 10 over bearing that IAP has for the rod journals.
Could you tell me where to find your list? My search attempts were fruitless.

Thanks for the reply,
I didnt realize that undersized bearings were available. This is a rod bearing, and IAP has .010 over. I will take it in to a machinist this week and see if that will be enough to remove my defect.

groove on my 12v 3.0 crank journal

I just took the pistons out of my 3.0 verde engine and I was disapointed to see a groove on the journal for cyl number 4. What are my options? I would like to keep my three liters, so I am not very interested in installing a 2.5 crank. Can I use a 164 crank? What complications would go with that? th...

This rattle isnt extremely loud. I couldnt detect at all it before I had the mufflers reconnected. I think it sounds mechanical and not "tin can." I put my hand on the exhaust pipes while it was rattling away, and I couldnt feel it. Today I fired it up to listen to it some more, and I noti...

I couldnt find anything loose. I checked the rear engine mount and it is not fresh, but it wasnt the problem. The rear engine mount wasnt moving around very much at all at idle speed in neutral (the situation where the rattle is apparent).

It isnt the center bearing, it is definitely in the front. I looked for things contacting the shaft, but the exhaust is definitely clear. If it were hitting, wouldnt it get worse with more rpms?

I installed the shaft before the driveshaft before the advice was posted here and I thought everything was going great. The shaft spun smoothly to the rev limit. I even drove the car around for a week with no mufflers. The Mexicans didnt seem to mind that it was as louder than a small aircraft. I go...

Just thought that I would post my feelings about Lexus: It is a car for people who want to pay Merc money but just cant deal with the S class being too sporty. They are the people who would have been driving 20 foot long lincolns if it were 25 years ago. Altezza is ok, but I hate the tail lamp trend...

Higher rate o-ring (164 type) injectors from Greg are a good option. Greg will help you figure out exactly what you need. That is worth a lot. One thing though, before you go and spend the money: One of the biggest advantages of going to the 164 type O ring injectors is that you can use the same inj...

I think I will try bolting the driveshaft up without any tricks. It think it will balance ok since it was drivable with the front donut missing 1/6 of its rubber... What I meant here is that since it wasnt a disaster when it had a chunked donut, it should be better now no matter what. I replaced al...
