Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
OK guys - thanks for the thoughts. I'll leave it alone then. It's not as if there's a lot of fume and so far, it's not making a mess under the cover as I was careful where I put it.

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Minor update....prior to getting it mapped properly, I've fitted the inlet runners with WI nozzles just in case it needs some help, and gone with a smaller blower pulley. Drive ratio is now up to 1.97:1 but still only making 9psi. That'll do - it is what it is. I checked for leaks, and apart from va...

Re: New V6 3liter 12v pistons.
I learned my lesson with timing marks on my last-but-one build. Cams were fine as it turned out, but the scribe mark applied at the factory (he says kindly, dent made with a chisel more like) was wrong on one head. A whole tooth out. Not that I do many of them, but fresh builds will always be dialle...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
...and we're back! Mounts fixed it. I took the plunge and fitted the blower too - goes rather well. Only slight issue now...it only makes 7psi of boost, which is puzzling. I was hoping for more like 10psi. I'll check for leaks, then try a smaller pulley, then get it mapped. ...did I say, it goes rat...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Tried another tack this morning. Put a normal map in one slot, and a map with zero fuel in another, then switched between the two as I drove along. Tried with throttle wide open, closed and partial, made no difference to vibration/harshness as I switched the fuel on & off. ...so, I reckon that m...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Thanks Mats. It's a 6 pole coil wasted spark setup. Could conceivably be a lead or even the coilpack of course, although the last engine ran fine. Nice idea on the water - not heard taht oen before..but I am waiting for a pyrometer to arrive so should be able to be slightly more scientific with it w...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Didn't have time to fit the blower after changing the flywheel & clutch again, but did manage to swap injectors - no change. Now I'm starting to think the problem is apparent at all revs on or off load (just a lot more obvious at 1500-2000)...so either something is getting worse, or I was just k...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Yep, wideband fitted and integrated into the ECU. I did do a small amount of logging, but only on a short trip so it's pretty useless info at present as it wasn't even fully warmed up. I tried dialling in a bunch more fuel in the problem area but it felt the same (and the AFR fell as you'd expect), ...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Thanks Jes, I was sure I had the timing right....but it can't hurt to do it all over again to make sure.....and to be fair, it does have a somewhat similar feel about it in some ways to when my last engine had a cam timing error...but that one never really liked to rev, this one is fantastic. That o...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
Right then chaps....I'm hoping for some genius help here! This 12V engine of mine.....it's great above 3k or so, but at lower revs, it sounds and feels harsh. Almost as if it's a balance or mis-fire problem, but it smooths out as the revs rise, it's driving me to distraction and I'm running out of i...

Re: Rebuilt V6 - when to re-torque
The 164 owners book says 'First Coupon' which is 1500 miles, the shop manual for the engine says 'about 650 miles' The owners book also shows that the 'check torque' is only done once. .....and they reckon tappets only need adjustment every 30000 miles......inlets, perhaps. I expect I'll be pulling ...

Re: Rebuilt V6 - when to re-torque
Well, I took the tops off to do the tappets Saturday so did a re-torque anyway, even though it only had about 75 miles and maybe a dozen heat cycles on it - can't hurt. Went for a run out Sunday and put another 150 miles or so on it. Another couple of weeks shuold see it ready for the blower...... I...

Re: Rebuilt V6 - when to re-torque
Thanks Zig. I figured it was more about the heat cycles than anything else. I've already run it to bed the cams, then I went and did the ring seating on-road, and after that, I've managed a couple of short runs (about 15 miles each), leaning on it a bit once it was warm. I think I'll just suck it up...

Rebuilt V6 - when to re-torque
As per the title really. I've seen a range of views on this...so I thought a few more wouldn't go amiss :) If it helps, I'm keen to do this sooner rather than later...so I can fit the blower and all it's associated gubbins. I'm also keen to get in there and check/adjust tappets 'cos it's a bit rattl...

Re: Supercharged 12V/Stratos copy/engine tech type stuff
I'm saying nowt about folks sanity or lack of it - after spending 3 consecutive weekends, in -ve temperatures, taking the same gearbox out and putting it back again, on a car I don't normally drive in winter, I don't really feel I've got the right :D Trouble with our weather is it's usually just not...
