Barry,
The front Cross combo worked fine for the past 5 years including vicious 12V turbo engine and the SA 24v TT , I had fitted a new clutch recently plate and he poor bastered got tired I guess.
The thing is I have a different type BM donut at the center that absurbs vibrations from the metal to metal thing on the front , it is a small 12cm or less in diam' rubber item that I believed belonged to an E34 M5 ,it does not look massive but I never had a failure on this one , probably like you metioned is made of very high quality rubber.

What year 540? Does it matter?

Looks like BMW makes a 14mm through hole for the 540 and 740, late 1990's....

Could you explain more about the bush you machined...

Any need to compensate for flex disc thickness?

Thanks

ya.. waiting to c the outcome... the original is just too fragile for heavy footer.. The 540 donut look stronger and better design..

A donut-related question (but not too v6), does anyone have the measurements for the (weaker) 2.0 carb front donut? From what I've understand they're different.
thanks

For the Oz troops..these so called BMW donuts are to some extent generic
and are fitted to your family Commodores as standard equipment so obviuosly it is not solely made for BMW.

Problems arise due to them being not as thick and when adding up the three units installed, the shaft without modification will be too short.

Even if the engine flywheel end can survive without a centering mount, the rear one is still a problem.

At around $200 AUD a piece that's $600 for the set. Add the balancing charge and you got a thousand dollar upgrade...mmm ?

My suggestion is to spend the money on buying Granny's Datsun 120Y 'cause it runs on the smell of an oily rag, drive it for 10 years without a single service like most of the owners, save a sheit load of bucks and get a single kevlar unit made for the purpose. :D :D

too be honest i have replaced donuts on nearly every car i have owned. i always found that the only reason they failed in the first place was more so due to age then to spirited driving. i mean when the car revs out u dont stay in the high revs for long (obviusly race cars do). newaze ive found that once i replace them with brand new ones they dont give trouble for many years. 15yrs in my bros giullietta so far and still going. having said that in my 3l 75 and now in my gtv turbo i run a larger centre donut that is bigger then standard..is from some bmw dont ask me which as its been a while and cost bout the same as the original one. actually looks like one of the ones pictured above except like i said is used in the centre.
