Single plate clutch balancing

Post by davidhooau »

Wise Ones,

I'm going to replace the clutch driven plate in my 116 when doing the synchros, and have been told by a dealer that the clutch needs re-balancing when this is done. Neither Hayne's nor Autobooks manuals mention this.

What's the truth?

If it does need balancing, do I need to remove the flywheel/shaft from the clutch housing?

Thanks,

davidh

I have replaced single discs and at most have only had the pressure plate minimally machined...no outward balance issues

of course this is the easy way......

Normally not needed. The parts are separately balanced.

Only when modding anything (read: lightening) I take the parts for balancing.
