New CV's please
The cv boots on my car disintegrated last year and I have not replaced them yet. Since i have driven the car with less and less grease in the joints I would like to replace them all together. Does anyone know if there are substitutes from other cars that fit or if there are still lobro alfa units hanging around somewhere. I think that the e30 has the same six bolt cv join pattern, but I am not sure if it is the same thickness or spline pattern. Advice, web addresses, and parts for sale are all welcomed here.

well i have found porsche 930cv joints have the same 28 splines, bolt pattern, m10 bolt size, and diameter of 108mm. i even found high performance axles and chromoly 930 cv joints. now i need to measure the alfa shaft to compare length and find the appropriate end caps.

well the alfa cv joint is the same 40mm in length by 108 mm in diameter with the same 7/8 inch diameter balls as the porsche 930. the gtv6 axle length is 15 and 1/8 inchs. does anyone know the lengths of the axle flanges/spacers for the gtv6 and the the (smaller) milano verde? it jsut might be possible to use a new longer axle and omit those flanges.
in summary, answering my own posts:
$150 for the chromoly axle pair
+336=$84 per high performance empi 930 108mm cv joint kit x 4
$486 for new no fuss no muss rear drive axles
OR
just $336 using the old alfa half shafts
considering that IAP sold 'refurbished' axles with cv's for 300 a pair this isnt that bad.

Has anybody tried these? Possibly dumb questions, but are the axle diameter and the bolt circle diameter correct? Everything else sounds right. I'll do some measureing when I get home. I've got some of the smaller Milano spacers, I'll measure them to answer the length question. But I think I'll just go for the joints, provided they really fit.
Sounds too good to be true!

hi guys,
check out this post from 2005 http://alfagtv6.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t= ... 9ccb3e5707
I have now found the invoice for the porshe 911 cv joints that are a exact match.
The details were as follows for anyone that needs them.
Part Number - CV430228-40 (not sure if this means anything)
Description - 28/108X40mm Porsche 911
So that is 28 splines and is 108mm in diameter and 40mm thick.
Hope this helps anyone out there. Also the model of 911 maybe 85 or 86 onwards.
Karl
BTW. I paid NZ$160 (US$110) for one RRPNZ$280 (US$195), you have got to love trade discount!!

Thanks for the info! I'm very happy to learn about this, as all the usual sources for Alfa Parts in this part of the world told me that new CV Joints are "No longer available, anywhere." I'm not sure if I should share this info with them or not... on the one hand, it would help other Alfa owners who don't happen to look online for info, and keep the suppliers informed. On the other hand, if Alfa parts supliers can't be bothered to find out this sort of info on their own, do they really deserve the help? Perhaps we are better off not paying an extra level of markup to buy from an Alfa parts source, but I always figured part of what I was paying for in Alfa parts was salary for an expert to track down sources of otherwise hard-to-find parts. Sigh. <rant off>
Anyway, for anyone interested in the Milano flange length: (All are approximate, as best I could hold a ruler and eyeball it, and without cleaning the grunge off of the GTV-6 flanges.)
*others have referred to these as being 15 1/8, which is probably the nominal length, and would make the numbers come closer to adding up. What really matters is probably the distance between the inner sholders. Perhaps mine are longer past the C-clip groove, without affecting the working length?
Thanks again,
Stephen

NLA? Yeah right... They're just lazy and only look at part numbers.
