the alfa boot is shaped like a cone and the porsche boot if a cylinder. if you compress the porsche boot all the way there is about 2 mm space between it and the shock in the front, the dedion tube on the bottom, and the rear spring in the back. Like Stephen said that may not be enough for actual driving. it is a shame because the boots are nice...

Did anyone notice how loosey goosey the old cv's are in comparison to the new ones? fiiiiiiiiine

I couldn't care less if they fit at wheelside The reason I would want to use the boot is that the originals can't handle the heat from the brakes on my racecar. I'm replacing boots very often while the cv's are fine (high temp graphite grease).

Get the J-style boots, takes up minimal amounts of space and won't "baloon" at high speed.

The section looks like a J with the hook going outwards towards the flange instead of clamped on the outside of the flange like the std boot. Much more resistant to high axle speed and will stay in place.
Nice technical term, J-style, right up there with "Banana washer"

Just reading this post as I'll be dropping the rear out of my Alfetta for transmisson work. It seems the 930 CV joints worked out. Did the 911 CV joints ever arrive and how did they work out?

Also, which boots were finally used? The J-flange pictured by Mats doesn't have any reference on Page 1 anymore. Maybe the links are too old. Can anyone expand on that part please?

They are available from all manufacturers of CV-joints, it's just an option between regular bellow/convoluted and J-boot. Where to get them for the Alfa CVJs I have no clue though, the link was to GKN's Motorsport dept.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mats. I'm also interested to learn how everything turned out with Vittorio's installation. Are you still lurking around somewhere Vittorio? Stephen had also ordered some. How did it all go you two? I know it's been a while so it's probably not fresh on your minds, but how about a report on the final configuration with all parts you used - Joints, boots, etc?
