identification plate under bonnet missing

Post by borto »

A few years ago I moved to Italy bringing my GTV6 with me from abroad. Because of lack of time I never registered the car on italian number plates.

Now the time is there, but i discovered that the identification plate, with the chassis number, weights ecc. under the bonnet is missing. This plate is required to register the car. According to the local AR dealer it is not available as a spare part.

Does anyone has a suggestion how to get this identification plate? I have been told that "original reproductions" are offered around, but where?

thanks in advance,
Mario

On US spec cars this plate (or what I think you are referring to) is mounted at the drivers' door jam - on the B-pillar towards the bottom.

If the suggestion from jes doesn't locate the plate, visit a motor wrecking yard (or equivalent) and simply buy/remove that plate from the car being wrecked and fix it to the location it is supposed to be for these cars in your country.

Panel repair shops do it all the time if a vehicle is damaged badly enough to damage the original plate.

if the VIN number is on the plate you might have a problem... :?

Then you need to make a new plate.
Search for a plate from another (same make+model offcourse.. )car and use that one to make a copy. Get some company to scan it into the computer and print it onto a piece of aluminium. Then cut it to the same size as the original. after that you just have to punch in the VIN number and attach it to the car.

Not an easy option... :(
Drive it like you stole it...

Here is a pic off of eBay from a gtv6 showing the location of the VIN plate on a US GTV6 - there is also a smaller plate in the window with only the VIN number.

The VIN is stamped on the bulkhead too at least on my UK model.. I needed to clean this up so the inspector could read it before they let me register it in Spain. I also don't have the chassis plate but in Spain they let me register it because the VIN matched the documents. I am going to try to register it in France when I bring it over, I might be looking for a plate too if they turn out to be too picky. Good Luck!

In Italy the identification plate is needed above all to register the car at the ASI.
This is an official classic car register. When it is registered at the ASI you do not pay road tax and can get cheap insurrances.

Is there anyone who could post a picture of the identification plate of a european GTV6. So at least I have an example how it should look like.

thanks in advance,
Mario

There are actually two plates but I think when we look at the pics together it will be clear what you need. :)

I am looking for those two plates aswell. Any source or idea for a solution?
Or maybe a clearer picture, so I can get it custom made at some sign-maker-shop?
