Horn Pad Removal & a Few Questions from a Newby

Post by don hodgdon »

Greetings from an Alfa newby...

I tried the search function to no avail...

'85 GTV6, I have to change out the column switch and before I go and break anything, how do I get the horn pad off?

Are there any manuals for these cars? How good is "The Alfa Owners Bible"?

TIA,
don

Don the horn pad just pops off.Press in at the bottom and pull out at the top as illustrated below.
The "Alfa Owner's Bible" is an excellent book that all GTV6 owners should read but it is not intended to guide you through day to day maintenance tasks.Cardisc's Cd is a good source of info as it contains most of the original shop manuals. You can get it either from the standard Alfa Parts suppliers or buy it directly on their website:

And disconnect the battery if you dont want all the attention

You'll want to make a puller to get the wheel off, be sure to pull at the base of the wheel and not where you prolong the hub itself (it's made to bend in a collision and will deflect). The tool you want to copy is 3.0451 on the page 75-23-03.gif under steering, in the manuals found at
http://www.users.on.net/~craigf/

Good luck
The milano very sold, some day some other Alfa...

Thanks for the assistance gentlemen...cardisc is ordered. I'm sure that after I spend a few hours with it I will have all sorts of questions to pester my mechanic with.
