Dash Cap

Post by Terry Johnston »

I am getting ready to strip off the dash cap that I put in last summer on my GTV6. I really like the looks of the full coverage cap but a couple of months after I put it on it cracked right where the crack on the original dahboard is. I suspect that the problem is that I glued the dash over where the crack was and instead should have floated it (meaning no glue where the crack is. I suspect that movement on the original board stressed the cap causing it to crack. Any other ideas or comments out there in GTV6 land?

Terry I think you've nailed that one.I believe the instructions that come with the cap are clear about only using a silicon bond around the outer edges.I installed mine 3 years ago over two gaping chasims between the defrost outlets and the windshield and haven't had any problems since.I think I remember filling the cracks with "Goop" before I installed the cap.
