I agree, you need the bell housing but you can use the 24v flywheel and make an adapter. This way you keep the original balance.

I used a 2.5 flywheel and bell housing on a 164 12v engine in my Dads car with no problems.
I'm using a 2.5 bell housing and the original flywheel with an adapter on my 24v conversion.
I don't know if there is a difference between 75 2.5 and 3.0 flywheels.

Daniel,

when you say adapter you mean that 4mm 8 hole spacer in the picture on the previous page or two?

if that is the case then tally ho! there was a bell housing and flywheel on ebay that just went a little too high for my taste.

No, you only need that plate if you use a RWD 12v flywheel.
The adapter you need to make picks up the 8 flywheel bolts and allows you to bolt up the GTV6 tailshaft coupling. Basically a thick flex plate is the answer.

hmmm... i started taking the 24v motor apart and when i got to the clutch i figured why not bolt the 300zx fly wheel on. low and behold we have two problems. firstly the bolts to the crank are fatter than on the 2.5 motor, secondly, of the eight bolt holes two are closer than together than the rest (i.e. if the holes were enlarged they are at now only 7 of the eight bolts would line up). i have pictures of this, but i have not uploaded them yet. since this zero balanced flywheel is going to have to be balanced with the rest of the rotating assembly, will it be okay to have one oblong hole out of eight?

ps: are the bolts that secure the flywheel to the crank the same size on the 2.5 12v and the 3l 24v?

I guess you have figured it out but: The reason for the different distance between the holes in the flywheel and crank are that they only should fit in one way. :)

I used a 75 3,0 flywheel on my Q4 engine and then I just needed new bolts.
The Q4 bolts was to short due to thicker material in the 75 flywheel where the bolted connection is.
The 75 bolts did'nt fit due to other thread in the crank. It's fine tread in the Q4 crank.

When I compared the 75 3,0 flywheel with my GTV6 2,5 flywheel I noticed that the 3,0 one is a couple of millimeters thicker.

Hi Sporttuner,

I know that you told me this before but I forgot. :( I think the reason why you wish to put a 350Z transmission in your Alfa it so that you can not have to deal with the transaxle and get more hp than the original drivetrain of the GTV6 will handle? Please let me know again.

Thanks.

i should really just cut to the chase and throw a cheap 350z engine in too. that would eliminate sooo many problems (hahaha).

big horsepower down the road.

porsche cv's performed flawlessly at watkins glen on july 18 and 19.

I did manage however to crack the clutch bellhousing thursday afternoon as i ran the car up to 7200 between turns 8 and 9. I was just about to pass a porsche cayman (being driven without balls!) when all of a sudden there was huge driveline vibration. i thought it was a partially exploded guibo, but as a limped back to the paddock and put it on jacks i found that one side of the rear motor mount had dislodged from the floor due to rust and the aluminum bellhousing was cracked... good thing i have so many extra transaxles!

in the meantime the bimmer boys were reading newspapers in the shade almost all day! too bad i passed one of their beloved e46 m3.

Nice one Vittorio,it's such a satisfying feeling sticking it to a supposedly 'faster' car on a race track. :D

I like your sense of humour. We get the same from some sectors on this side of the big pond. Some blokes get just a little too testy over their cars sometimes.

Tell me what's the Glen like to drive on in terms of a driver challenge point of view ?
