Steering-joint-rubber-thing to weld??

Hi from Sweden!

New here and back, after some 25 years, in a GTV6!

I´ve found that my steering-wheel is out of position, horns not working but car is running ok. The faulty part probably is this joint that I´ve tried to descibe in the header and I have read about welding it up BUT, what material is it? what type of welding-machine is the right choice?

It seems to me that it should be possible to do it "in-car", any experiences ??

//Best regards from Sweden, Per

the groundwire is missing here (see the two small holes) normally a wire connects the upper-part with the lower, thus creating a ground for the hornswitch
the two parts are connected inside with rubber to avoid vibrations in the steeringcolumn

When the steering is out of center then you got a problem .
I will find some links of posts on this subject starting with this one .

The welded washer I did on mine was just a safe guard so if the bush did pop out when it delaminated you did not have a serious problem on your hands .
