I am collecting parts to build a motor that should produce 300hp at the wheels of my Milano. It should have serious torque as well since it will be a roots supercharged motor.

I dont want oversteer everytime I touch the gas. What width of rear tire will I need to rein in this much power? What are my needs as far as wheel width goes? Are there any available wheels that will meet my needs? I have never seen wheels for the Alfa that were more than 7in wide. I would like to go with Team Dynamics, but I dont think they are wide enough. I guess I could use 5x100 wheels and modify them since many people have done that.

It will be a while before I actually begin work on the engine build because the shopping list is very long. I am making a spreadsheet of all the things my Alfa will want in the next few years and I am trying to estimate costs in every area.

The potential need for expensive wheels and tires is one of the areas that I am having the most difficulty in cost estimation. This is due in large part to the fact that I dont know yet what I will need.

I bought a set of MAK Stings 16"x7.5", they were about $300AUD a piece and made for a 156. 5x98, just required a little bit of machining around the center bore to fit on my 75. Friends with a fitter and turner so it cost me $10 for the machining.

what do you mean not more than 7" wide? OE or what?

Aftermarket there are loads of whatever you want. And for 300 hp 7" is narrow IMHO.
I'd consider 225/45R16 or 245/45R16.
Or 235/40R17 if you like big rims (combined with 215/40 which doesn't rub in front).
Rim should be about 8" depending on final tire size.

I mean that I have checked the normal US vendors and I dont see any wheels in the 5x98 pattern that are over 7in wide. I want Team Dynamics, but they are only 7in. I dont think 7in is enough either.
However, I dont have $1600 to spend on custom made wheels. I dont think I want 16in, because it seems that tire selection is better for 15 and 17. Really, what I would like are some wide and roomy 15in.
In the US, I have not seen anything over 7 and I think I need 8 or larger.

Hey guys, how's everybody doing? I have been looking at these for a little while in comparison to TD rims which a re really nice and priced well. I have not gotten around to calling the spin werks rep but something tells me that thest al. wheels can be cut to spec. they h ave great sizes available. GOOD LUCK with RPH.com they have lots of good cheap parts but man are they slow to make a sale difficult items (i.e. that require them to do some work).

There is a company is Australia (Speedy Wheels) that custom drill their wheels, and they make plenty of 17x8 and a few 17x7.5's, but I suppose your after something local, it shouldnt be hard to find.

If you want 15 x10s (rear) and 15x8 (front) with rubber, that will bolt straight up, my mechanic is selling his simmons wheels:

These are the wheels. He's not exactly giving them away, though, they cost him around $3500 to have made up, and they are in as new condition.

Those wheels are very tits, but I dont think I am in a position to buy custom made wheels right now. I just dont have the necessary chips.
Thanks for the heads up though, maybe after I sell one of my cars.

Not a prob. mate- I understand! I am loving the idea of having a set of simmons made up for mine when I have the pennies. My mechanic thought about doing it again too, but as we all know, off the shelf is always cheaper than custom!

I can say from the torque laden cars that I have driven, and been driven in, that a set of 17x8s with good rubber will help. Probably 235s the best bet.

Check out this site WWW.RONALUSA.COM they have several styles for alfa that work 5x98 in 7.5 width. Both 16 and 17 inch possibly even 18
Most under $200 each.

I have a set of Team Dyamics DTM. 16 X 7.5 et 38. One is bent and I need to fix it. If you are interested, then pm me. I'm pretty sure they aren't all perfect, but still look good.

Some of the Ronal rims look nice on the car, but they are heavy. I have a set of 3 piece R1001 (which are very delicate; all 4 bent on different occasions), and a set of RT, both 17x7.5. I can not wait to retire them to only road use.

I got my set of RT for $100each, but the TD are well priced, they look great on the car, and they are light.
