Re: The Orange Cab -MD's New Racer

Mercedes 190e uses an upside downtown ball joint I think. While it's a mac strut car, the spring is on the wishbone instead of the strut.

 8) CAD file available perhaps? :D Would save me some work for sure.. That only works with the special flywheel/clutch combo i suppose? Because the gearbox prise-axle ( the one that goes into the clutchplate) doesn't stick out of the gearbox at the front it will move even further back...

Re: 116 GTV BRERA Race car !!!

Front mount gearbox? Camaro/Commodore unit should just bolt up?
Thermostat on the rwd GM iterations of that motor is in a most impractical place - anything been done to make that easier?

I know the 205/55/15 on my old GTV went damn close.

Re: Does it seem like this site is dying to anyone else?

The italian guy, Luca right? I was actually on my way to visit him once when I was in Italy but in the end I couldn't get a hold of him when I was there. Too bad. I remember the Yngwie Malmsten MIDI music on his website, epic. :D Yeah, that's right! I remeber viewing his site on a 56k modem... As l...

Re: Does it seem like this site is dying to anyone else?

This site is old, the cars are old and the people are getting old too. I first joined this site after meeting Mike in 1996 or so. The number of people calling it quits due to the economic situation is also going up. I even saw JK selling his big runners. What does that mean? His 12V V6 days a...

Re: ITB Conversion Alfetta GTV 2.0

Given that guys are topping out at 200-210hp on 48s on the 2ls and TS motors, you're not suddenly going to see 230hp converting to ITBs... just ain't going to happen, and funnily enough, doesnt happen.

Re: Spring Rate to Damper Ratios???

I guess it depends on how smooth your tracks are and how often you bounce off ripple strips.
Anyway, thinking about it more, i'd probably stick with the known quantity of about 10% more wheel rate on the front.

Re: Spring Rate to Damper Ratios???

Yeah, that's what I always thought, but apparently flat ride theory says otherwise. Mind you, my workmate (ex V8SC) says 10% more wheel rate is the way to go.

Re: Spring Rate to Damper Ratios???

Additional tidbit - try to get the Body natural frequency at the rear to be about 20% greater than the front - this ties in with "Flat ride theory" where the faster response of the rearend allows the car to respond to bumps etc better.

Re: Spring Rate to Damper Ratios???

Here's a handy spread sheet.
So the ball park targets are 65-70% of critical damping at approx 10 inches/s at the wheels... the rest is motion ratios and estimated masses. One gotcha to keep an eye out for, the motion ratios are inverted - so the front motion ratio is 1.59 or something.
