Re: Jim K. 3.2 engine
Heya Jim! just getting back in here after a short while away. I might have missed out something in setting up the engine since the last time. The car runs great, but recently there was a hash of misfires that I lived with till it got worse and I had some kind of ringing sound that translated into a ...

Re: Jim K. 3.2 engine
Hi Jim,
Just to repeat my question above, at what milage should I open the 24v engine for a rebuild or overhaul? While there's no problems now, I'd hate to have down time pop up unexpectedly if I continue to push the engine hard on track days.
Thanks!

Re: Jim K. 3.2 engine
I am wondering, how much stress than the engine take over its lifetime. Mine is at 131k km or approximately 82,000 miles. The only work done to it was fitting the cams and shaving the heads by 1.3mm. At this rate, I'm thinking if I should continue to track the car under high loads, or save it as a d...

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!
Thanks Kev, while the coils are less than a year old and about 20k km used.
Did a swap from front to rear and its still has misfire on idle.
Could be that the mech might have been a bit off when he set the markings on the rear cams, that's my only assumption left.
Perplexing issue this is....

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!
Is it possible that its a mistimed rear cam, even its just a teeny weeny little bit?
With 1.4mm shaved off and the 10.0 cams, will that damage the engine if its even a little bit off?
The misfire @ idle is back again today, but 2 x only. Greatly improved over the last couple of weeks.

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!
Really weird thing happened. I changed out the Lambda And still misfired at idle. But it improved the lambda signals Changed out from 0.7mm gap plugs to 0.95mm gap plugs. Improved a lot more... But still misfired. Changed out 5W50 oil (3 weeks old) to 10W60 oil and the misfires disappeared. I'll kee...

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!
Did the compression tests again and all cylinders are showing 250-260 psi/ 18 Bar So no issues with bent valves, or leaking piston rings.... Lambdas replaced, at least 3 times, and car runs fine on the throttle with matching lambda signals on the graph, but gets a lazier lambda reading for the rear ...

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!
Jim, just checking, and I'm sure its been answered before in this thread. Can the cams work with standard lifters of the 3.2 GTA engine? I recall that the answer is yes.... BUT..... I just did a compression test and all the cylinders were doing in the region 250psi except for Cyl 2, which is just un...

Re: Jim K. 3.2 engine
Try idle rpm 900-950, but a proper job would mean also adjusting advance/fuelling. We do expect some dyno numbers after mapping! Jim K. Cold starts in the mornings are at about 1000-1100 rpm for about 10-30 sec..... before settling to 800-850. then I drive off. Once the engine is warm, my 3.2 is id...

I'm reading up on this now with so much more enthusiasm. Noticed that the SA team is tapping on LT's team for some experience and know how.

Let me speak to my buddy and see if we come up with a plan do to that. Will definitely need to ask you for the list of parts we need to gather before sending it up to you. I've attached a picture of a 147 GTA in Japan, taking part in the Alfa Romeo Meet there. This is a 3.8 set up with a Dual Plenum...

Too bad we can't fly you to Malaysia or Singapore to set up cars for us
Maybe it could be a plan for you next winter?

Re: 3.0 24V - your suggestions
Hey Jim, I'm not sure how high a CR I can safely go with the existing parts. Heads are already skimmed down by 1.3mm although you said I have safety margin for 1.4mm. Not sure how much compression that would make but I think the CR should be 11.1:1 If that's the case, what piston heads are needed to...
