This is my first time of actually considering to
purchase a GTV6 or any kind of Alfa Romeo. I saw this '86 Black GTV6 with tan interior for sale for about $3400 at 67K miles. It seems to be in good condition, but then again I have never had any experience with Alfas, GTV in particular. Recent maintenance done by the owner was a/c replacement. Does anyone have any opinion on this, or any suggestion in general? By the way, I live in chicago area. Are parts easy to find around here? Are they expensive/inexpensive? Please help...

Dear Daniel,
Is the GTV from 1985 or 1995? Well, the prices for european versions in good shape can sometimes by quite expensive but 5000 pounds seems a good price for me. I paid the double of it for a GTV6 from 1987 with some extras (wheels, engine and suspension) and I still don't regret it.
But I would be interesting to see the prices in the different parts of th world. I can post a unofficial secondhand pricelist, if need.

Dear Justin
The car is a 1985 model with all usual extras and even aircon! It has had a recent full glass out respray and lots of other work including a full rewaxoiling of the underside and a new harvey Bailey Bilstein suspension kit.
Thanks for the info - i appreciate it!
i hope i will have as much fun as you have!

If the car is truly in good order, then it is well worth it. There are those who believe GTV-6's will be collectible and valuble in the years tocome, being they are the last "true" Alfas, being the last rwd coupes built, and before the Fiat takeover.

I recently purchased a very clean 85 GTV6 for $6,000.00 and an even better 83 GTV6 for $1200.00...so who knows? I think the GTV6 is a very underated vehicle and when the enthusiast public realizes what a great vehicle they are and the supply slips into oblivion, the vlaue will appreciate greatly.

I just purchased an 84 GTV6 with 45K original miles from the original owner..had all paperwork, including the bill of sale and all mechanical work since new..original chesnut paint, mint interior(no cracks on the dash, every instrument working, including ice cold airco)not a spot of rust(I/m in Southern California) and a sunroof...I paid his asking price of $2750 on the spot. It helped that I was the first caller and first one to see it...

Congratulations Robert and welcome to the club!!
I think your car is a real bargain!!

In Europe you would have payd at least 3 times more!!
Greetings Peter.

IF YOU HAD READ THE NOVEMBER ISSUE IN EUROPEAN CAR.(ALSO POSTED ON THIS WEB SITE)IT BREAKS DOWN THE VARIOUS CATAGORIES OF GTV-6.$0-1000-A WORTHLESS BEATER/$1000-$2000 A CAR THAT NEEDS TO HAVE SOME WORK DONE ON IT TO MAKE IT A RUNNER./$2000-$4500 A GOOD SOLID CAR THAT IS COSMETICALLY IN GOOD CONDITION/$4500-$6000 A LATER MODEL 84-86 IN EXELLENT CONDITION WITH REVISED SHIFT LINKAGE,LOW MILES ETC.I DON'T KNOW HOW RELIABLE THE ARTICLE IS.I DID USE IT AS A GUIDE TO BUY MINE.MY ONLY PROBLEM WAS I BOUGHT AN EAST COAST CAR AND DID NOT LOOK UNDERNEATH THE CAR(PUT IT ON A RACK).SO I HAVE A LOT OF CHASSIS RUST ON MINE.I PAID $4000 FOR A $2000 CAR.WELL AS THEY SAY LIVE AND LEARN-PAUL GRANT-SANTA FE,NM

A good GTV6 will retain it's value for a long long time. An excellent original one would easily fetch $6000. A low miles stock Milano verde in excellent condition will easliy fetch $8000-$9000. As for me I would rather buy a beater that's straight and rust-free with a blown engine (less than $1000). I would then install my own hot engine, weber Marelli efi, 16" wheels new suspension etc. I think the mods alone would cost $12000. But it should be well worth the money. Below $15K you could have a car that would give a ferrari 308 GTS QV or an Integra type R a run for its money.

It's amazing too see the difference in prices between the U.S.A and the Netherlands!
A Milano [called 75 overhere] is almost worthless, meanwhile the GTV's values are slowly rising.
The most valuable are original cars, without body-kits or upgraded engines, such cars are worthless too!
My car is a 1984 model GTV-6 [first on the street in 85] it is original apart from the exhaust[I removed the last damper, and welded an Ansa straight tube on it,meanly for the great sound]
When I go to Alfa meetings I get a lot of attention and people think it"s a restored car!
Greetings,Peter.

I own a 1985 GTV-6 and have driven it for 16 years - it has had it's ups and downs, but is a fantastic automobile. Just put a new clutch in it. Also owned '73, '79 and '88 spiders.

I´ve owned two Sprint Veloces (European Boxers) 1.5 and 1.7, two 75s (Milano) 2.0 carbs and 2.0 Twin Spark, I´ve bought my first GTV6 some days ago.
It´s an 86 red, tan interior, almost stock with the original wheels plus a set of real modular 3 pieces 7x15 with Michelins 205/55.
Low mileage 80K kilometers (50K miles)no rust at all.
I´ve paid for it $2700 and I think it´s a real good price for this car.
In Europe prices are cheaper than in the States, and in Spain are cheaper than in the rest of Europe.
I saw a lot of cars before buying mine and prices start in $2K for bad cars till $4K for the best ones for sale. The real good ones are not for sale.
Most of the cars here in Spain are still 2.5, I only know about a few 3.0, no real upgrades but Konis, no special cams, springs...
Only some Zender body kits in some wothless cars.

hello!i bought my gtv6 a little over a year ago,and although im tempted to modify i think ill leave it original because in five years time this will be a definite classic and a good original car will command good money i have a gtv2.0l which i can play around with but not the gtv6.
By Peter K. (vp186-171.worldonline.nl - 195.241.186.171) on Unrecorded Date:
I'm with you George!!
In Europe a good, original GTV-6 is slowly increasing in value, while so called " modified" ones are slowly fading away!
Nobody overhere wants to buy a non original GTV-6,so they end up at a scrapyard!
By george ( - 144.138.132.220) on Unrecorded Date:
yes! these cars are becoming very rare here in australiia if you just take a look and see how many of them on the roads they are slowly becoming extinct thats why i say hang on to the good ones,i dont know how it is in america ,they have more gtv6s over there than here.

They are quite rare over here as well. I have not seen another GTV6 on the road in a couple of years.

ten years ago there was a lot more of them running around but now youll be lucky to see one if you drive around the city.anyway ,i always stop and stare if i see one ,just recently i stoped a guy at the lights and started talking to him he had a gtv6.

I just bought a GTV-6 (1983) in good
condition, with the usual minor problems (rust
in the front fender wells, broken/repaired door
handle.) The motor is not original, though it is
a 2.5, it is from a later car. I have all the
paperwork, etc. Will the non-matching #s
make the car less valuable in the long run?
By Zamani on Unrecorded Date:
Hmmm... no.
By Peter K. on Unrecorded Date:
eventualy, yes, but that's something for the far future, like maybe 10 years from now or so!
So don't worry now and have fun with your car!

Im looking at purchasing a gtv6 in the uk. Any idea of a good place to find one - most of them seem overpriced, asking £5k for a good usable one. Im going to be looking around the £3k mark - anyone got any ideas or even a car they might be interested in selling.
Opinions on this one would be nice if people have a moment

Looks good,Chris!
Watch for the usual rust spots, inner frontwings etc.
Als find out if the head gaskets are renewed, and watch the belt tensioner carefully!
Good luck!
